A master's degree is a postgraduate academic degree. A master's degree prepares students to lead or manage. A master's degree also prepares a person for a range of pursuits through specialized study of a field.

Theology studies the nature of divinity through reviewing a variety of religious and philosophical beliefs. It is sometimes, but not necessarily, studied in order to work within a specific religion. Courses included can be comparative religion, philosophy and spiritual scripture, as well as religion’s effects on history, economics and politics.

Qatar, is a sovereign Arab state, located in Western Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast of the much larger Arabian Peninsula. Education City is a fairly new undertaking in Doha funded by the Qatari Government through the Qatar Foundation. It is the home to Qatar Academy, the Learning Centre, the Academic Bridge Program (similar to a college prep school), as well as branch campus of Texas A&M University (Engineering).

The Master of Arts in Islamic Studies offers students a unique opportunity to enjoy a strong multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary graduate education across a range of core subjects, while also enabling them to pursue specialist study in one of a range of important areas within the field of modern Islamic scholarship.

The program is tailored to examine traditional Islamic knowledge and place such knowledge in the context of the challenges faced in modern society. Although Islamic Studies is a discipline that is widely taught in universities across the world, the blended combination of specialties and research offered at HBKU is unique.

NOTE: Foundation and Core courses are taught in either English or Arabic, depending on the concentration the student chooses, and candidates for this degree must choose the concentration no later than the completion of the first semester. Students demonstrating language proficiency in either Arabic or English may select concentrations taught in their language of proficiency.
