By definition, sustainability is a process that can be characterized by a certain socio-ecological ideal. In other words, sustainability is often linked to environmental goals of ensuring that resources are used in a costly and effective way as to minimize both waste and damage.

Slovenia (Slovenija) is a member of the European Union, Schengen Agreement and NATO. Previously one of Yugoslavia's six constituent republics, present-day Slovenia became independent in 1991. Slovenia has four universities, located in Ljubljana, Maribor, Nova Gorica and Koper.
