The Department of English Literary Studies at UCT recently launched a revised coursework Master's degree that foregrounds research into English Literary Studies in the global South. The new MA aims to equip a new generation of postgraduate students to conduct research into the compelling issues that arise in our discipline at a time when questions of canonicity are under revision and new approaches to literary studies are generating new archives and addressing the coloniality of received archives. The course helps to equip students to develop their own research paths and would make excellent preparation before moving into the PhD

The purpose of the MA in Public Management and Governance is to provide students with specialized knowledge and insights into the nature of policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation as a higher-order management function and the nature of African governance, as instruments to improve developmental policy service delivery outcomes and good governance in practice.

This Program provides integrated professional and advanced academic training equipping the student to function as a Clinical Psychologist and leads the student to be able to apply for an internship in Clinical Psychology and, thereafter, undergo a Professional Board Exam in Clinical Psychology. After successful completion of a Professional Board Exam, the student can then apply to the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for registration as a Clinical Psychologist. Such registration will be subject to any professional conditions and requirements stipulated by the Professional Board for Psychology and the HPCSA at the time of registration.

This is an advanced study program that can be completed as a coursework-based study program. This program is designed to facilitate mastery of a complex and specialized knowledge area within the discipline of Strategic Communication. Due to an increasing convergence of Marketing Communications, Corporate Communications, and Public Relations, the program will address the integration between these communication disciplines.

In coursework mode the candidate should successfully complete the advanced course in Social Theory, the advanced course in Social Research Methodology, and complete research and write a minor dissertation on an approved, relevant topic. The Master’s by research entails only a research study – larger than the minor dissertation of the coursework Master’s, but not as large as a Doctoral thesis. The principal purpose of the master’s research is to develop advanced competencies in research. In addition, you will also develop expert knowledge in your field of study. The Master’s by Research program is ideal for students who are primarily interested in developing their research competence, do not want to participate in lectures or workshops, are highly self-motivated, independent, and self-directed, and have a focused, specific field of research interest.

A student registered for a 180-credit structured research master's degree must complete the study program within three years. A student may make an application to the Registrar for one additional year of study.

The MArch(SEEC) qualification is a one-year full-time program on sustainability and energy studies with a focus on cities, settlements, buildings, and architecture. With a strong focus on the energy and climate change challenge, this multi-disciplinary program aims to arm the graduates with an integrated range of competencies which will make them invaluable role players in decision making concerning the future/sustainability of cities and their built environment.
