Master of Arts (MA) in Painting

The student can select the most suitable of the several painting and art fabric classes. The syllabuses differ from class to class, varying from ones teaching conventional painting techniques to experimental studies encompassing the most modern painting concepts. Likewise, the students select the drawing classes which they consider themselves most eligible for. The range of drawing class syllabuses includes regular nature studies as well as the experimental perception of drawing as an autonomous artistic language. Drawing is a compulsory course for all our students.

Studio of Textile Arts 1

Head: professor Anna Goebel

This studio combines conventional techniques with experimentation to provide a platform for experiential exchange and encouraging genuine diversity for each and every student to be able to develop their interests. The curriculum encompasses workshops, tutorials, lectures, presentations and tailored projects. The students receive practical knowledge and get to know the theories behind mainstream weaving techniques, handmade paper, batik, felt and appliqués. We encourage the students to conduct their own evolving search for innovation by referring to traditional techniques from a novel perspective. We invite experimentation that leads to the creation of unique textiles and the development of personalised expression. The subjects covered are developed together with the students by in-depth discussions. The level of the student’s abilities and their independent approach to work determine the type of tasks. The aim of the studies is to form artistic awareness and develop the skills for creative questing by emphasizing the importance of the... [-]

About the Programme

The Painting programme approaches the practice of painting as a self-reflexive, critical activity that draws on a wealth of varied historical, material and conceptual accomplishments related to the medium and its objects. The programme aims to provide an expansive and inclusive platform on which to engage with current issues and debates surrounding the challenges and location of painting as a part of contemporary art practice.

Through the many learning and teaching experiences the programme offers, students and staff rigorously, critically and supportively engage in personal tutorials, group critiques and presentations. These discussions and critical forums take place in the Painting studios, across the College, through visits to galleries and collaborations with our partner institutions, and during visits to major exhibitions both in this country and abroad.... Study a Master's in Painting in the Netherlands

You are keen to gain more insight into the innovative potential of painting in a rapidly changing world. You are aware of the forces of physicality and materiality in artwork, and you take a painterly approach to conducting your experimental research into the functioning of perception psychology, cognition and imagination. A painting both reveals how ideas are imagined and shows how a material is edited and used. Taking a painterly and critical approach means harnessing materiality to create new links and associations. By combining ideation and materiality, transforming your ideas into unexpected, meaningful and powerful images, you determine the meaning and significance of your work in contemporary society....
