Master of Arts (MA) in Music

The Lucerne School of Music has originated from masterclasses which were taught every summer by the prestigious soloists of the world-famous Lucerne Festival. Eminent musicians such as Carl Flesch, Wolfgang Schneiderhahn, Edwin Fischer and others have thus created a tradition and spirit of music teaching which is nowadays still present in the Lucerne School of Music.

The study programmes for the Master of Arts in Music (classical music, jazz music and folk music) are taught in German. Teachers may agree to teach in a foreign language, however; many of them, of course, speak English, French, Italian or other languages. Nevertheless, to follow the classes and to make contact with locals easier, you need a certain fluency in German (written and spoken). In English, the Lucerne School of Music offers to qualified students an interesting range of study programmes for Certificates of Advanced Studies as well as prestigious masterclasses. Every summer, the Lucerne School of Music offers a cooperation programme with the Lucerne Festival Academy.... [-]

MA Music in Development

Duration: One calendar year (full- time). Two or three years (part-time, daytime only). We recommend that part-time students have between two and a half and three days free in the week to pursue their course of study.

Entry Requirements: Students with a demonstrably strong background in music performance and evidence of a serious and sustained interest in development and creative communication. An undergraduate training in ethnomusicology, music psychology or music sociology would be an advantage, although a 2.1 pass in any social science degree would be acceptable. Under exceptional circumstances, significant fieldwork experience may offset the absence of formal academic qualifications in this area.... [-]
