The course will encourage you to develop the highest levels of instrumental skill through individual lessons and personalised learning. You will also develop your leadership and musical management skills through the leading of an ensemble, culminating in a performance of challenging original and existing repertoire.
The MMus/MA is a taught full-time or part-time postgraduate course that sees you continue with your specialism in either Production, Performance, Composition, or Performance and Composition, and demonstrate critical engagement with your discipline through a viva voce (MMus) or written critique (MA).
The Music MA is a flexible programme designed to cater to those with a wide range of interests and specialisms. It is conceived as a 'next step' after the undergraduate degree, either as a stepping stone to research, as a qualification for teaching in the FE sector or simply to satisfy a thirst for development. There are 10 specialist pathways that you can choose from across musicology, composition and performance; each includes a range of core and optional taught modules and you will complete the course with a dissertation, recital or composition portfolio.
The Contemporary Art Practice programme is delivered through four pathways: Critical Practice, Moving Image, Performance and Public Sphere. The four pathways are led by artists that specialise in these areas of practice. Opportunities exist for exhibitions, overseas travel and international exchanges (including Paris and Kyoto).
You’ll receive one-to-one instrumental or vocal tuition from our team of experienced tutors as part of a series of performance modules. The course culminates with a final project, where you’ll prepare a performance, normally a high-profile public recital. Alongside your solo work, you’ll develop your research, collaborative, ensemble, and publicity skills.
