Linguistics is the science-based study of human language. Its students seek to understand the context, structure, and meaning of languages by comparing existing human languages and studying their similarities and differences. Areas of study include phonology, semantics, and syntax.

Officially known as the Italian Republic, the country is found in southern Europe. The official language is Italian and the cultural rich capital is Rome. Many of the world's oldest universities are located in Italy, in particular the University of Bologna (founded in 1088). There are three Superior Graduate Schools with "university status", three institutes with the status of Doctoral Colleges, which function at graduate and post-graduate level.

All courses are taught in English, in the lively international environment at the Department of Social, Political, and Cognitive Science, and a leader in multidisciplinary research. The Master also offers two main specializations through its two curricula “Linguistics and Cognition” and “Philosophy and Cognition”, with flexible options to combine teachings from both. In addition, students may apply for a Double Degree program in collaboration with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. -
