An MA, or Master of Arts, is a degree that focuses on subjects within the range of the social science and humanities disciplines. This graduate-level degree, which follows the undergraduate-level bachelor’s degree, generally combines coursework with research.

What is an MA in Information Science? This degree is geared towards training future information professionals on guiding library patrons, academic libraries, governments and businesses in handling the increasing digitization of information. Coursework may include information theory, analytics, information retrieval, research methods, reference and data services. Other courses may be more technically focused, such as database management, information architecture, data mining, user experience, and information visualization.

An MA in Information Science provides extensive training in computer and Internet skills, so students become adept at learning and using new technologies. Their communication and research skills are sharpened, and their organizational skills are further developed.

Fees for pursuing an MA in Information Science will vary, depending on the location, the educational institution, and the length of the program. The primary focus of an MA in Information Science is to train librarians and information professionals.
