Master of Arts in Theology

The Master of Arts in Theology is two-year programmes requiring 72 credit hours of coursework to graduate.

The programme seeks to give students sound evangelical graduate-level theological education within the African context to prepare students for ministry in the Church, Para-church organisations, and teaching careers in theological institutions in Africa and beyond.

The programme seeks to lay the foundation for the Christian faith and aims at preparing and providing foundational theological knowledge, competencies, and skills to enable the student to be an effective minister and teacher of the Christian faith.

Master of Arts in Biblical Studies

The Master of Arts in the Biblical Studies program is designed to prepare students for a more effective ministry through a foundational biblical education. At the end of the course of study, a student should be able to:

Demonstrate competence in the fields of biblical and theological studies. Display a broad understanding of at least one biblical language. Exhibit competence in the exegesis and exposition of the Bible (Old and New Testament) and relate that competence to African realities. Acquire necessary skills for further scholarly studies in the fields of Old and New Testament. Demonstrate Christian maturity expressed in a commitment to Christ, to His Body and interpersonal sensitivity in character and lifestyle displayed in communal relationships. ... [-]

Master of Arts in Church History

At the end of the study in the Master of Arts in Church History program, the student should be able to:

1) Outline the history of Christianity up to 1500 AD.

2) Interpret the history of the church since 1500 AD and discuss its implications for Christian life and ministry today.

3) Describe the key developments in African Christian history and show how this history has shaped the African Christian context in which he or she will live and work.

4) Exhibit a deeper understanding of the growth, maturation, and characteristics of the earliest African Christian communities in Egypt, North Africa, Nubia and Ethiopia.

Master of Arts in Missions Studies

The Master of Arts in Missions Studies program is designed to integrate the development of professional ministerial skills in missions with academic studies.

Combining scholarly and professional competence in the field of missions, the program focuses on equipping potential and functional leaders with knowledge, skills and character qualities required to develop competences in missions-related ministries of the church and church-related organizations.

The program also develops the potential of the student for further academic pursuit in the field of missions.

Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies

The Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies program is designed to provide scholarly and professional training to those directly involved in pastoral ministries of the church.

It seeks to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance competencies in pastoral leadership and church administration while at the same time preparing students for further studies.

Using the in-service approach, the program is delivered on campus and at various sites through block courses.

At the end of the study in the Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies program, the student should be able to:

Master of Arts in Translation Studies

This program provides for the professional development needs of practicing translators, translation project leaders, and translation consultants involved in the translation of the Bible and related material.

Biblical translation is an interdisciplinary task, and our program integrates training in Biblical languages, exegesis, translation principles, consulting, translation project management, and areas of linguistics directly relevant to Bible translation.

Admission requirements An undergraduate degree in any area of specialization from an accredited institution of higher learning with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, or a degree awarded with first class or upper second class honors, or its equivalent. Applicants with 2.75 cumulative grade point average or higher or second-class lower division or its equivalent should have at least two years of relevant experience after graduation. An applicant who does not meet the above requirements must present an undergraduate degree in any area of specialization and a Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant area of study from an accredited institution of higher learning with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, or its equivalent. ... The Master of Arts in Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies program equips scholars to adequately investigate and document Pentecostal and Charismatic phenomena in Global South. It analyzes characteristics, trends and expressions of Classical Pentecostalism, Neo-classical Pentecostalism and New religious Movements dominant in the Global South to accurately map out their contribution to global Christianity. This course recognizes that the raw data of Christianity today is resident in the Global South and appreciates that Pentecostal and Charismatic movement have extensively contributed to global Christianity.

Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies (MABTS)

The MABTS degree is an intentionally integrated two-year program designed to provide core biblical studies, theology, spiritual formation and ministry competencies for leaders of the church, para-church, and lay ministries, as well as professionals in the marketplace. In addition, the program prepares students for research and analysis, giving a solid foundation for advanced Masters and doctoral studies.
