The four-semester Master’s degree programme Moving Cultures – Transcultural Encounters / Cultures en movement – rencontres transculturelles / Culturas en movimiento – encuentros transculturales (Moving Cultures) is a four language programme of study which deepens the culture and literary-science core competencies acquired in an English, Romance language or comparable Bachelor degree programme and connects these with an interdisciplinary perspective on phenomena of cultural contact within the anglophone, francophone and Spanish-speaking world.

It is neither a program in English language nor in English linguistics. Therefore a BA in theoretical linguistics or equivalent qualification is required to join the program. A BA in English language and literature, in English teaching, or English translation will not be sufficient to ensure successful application.

The Master of Arts in Linguistics can be completed as a full time course (four semesters). The entry requirement is a BA in linguistics or equivalent qualification. Jewish Studies covers the entire cultural development of the Jewish world from the beginnings to the present day: its manifold historical appearances, its continuities and changes (including its interrelations with other cultures) in different ages and geographical locations in more than 1,000 years of development. Because of the Jewish world’s many linguistic, geographical, historical, religious and social relations, the programme comprises various disciplines – such as history, literature, philosophy and legal history – as is expressed in the Hebrew title “Jewish Studies” (Hebrew University Jerusalem).
