MFA in Transportation Design

Masters programme, 120 ECTS-credits

During the last century man has come to depend on transportation as a social and lifestyle necessity. The world has evolved with the desire and need to use vehicles. Cars, for instance, have become an integral part of our culture.

Our Transportation Design Programme is unique in its scope of interest, dealing with the whole transportation design field in cooperation with industry. Students are educated to have an open mind on both conceptual ideas and detailed realistic design solutions. They are encouraged to have a balanced thinking process where form and function work together.

The Transportation Design Programme gives the student competence to work with design and development of different types of vehicles; from bicycles and cars to public transportation means such as trains, buses and aircrafts. This is the first course of its type in the Nordic countries.... [-]

Masters of Arts in Engineering Studies in Europe 2017/2018. About the Programme The intensity of our carbon economy has left the planet with a design problem. No matter where we live or work, the environments we move through are constructed. There is nothing on the planet that human beings haven’t touched. If the planet has a design problem, what do the terms ‘design’ or ‘architecture’ mean when they are applied to phenomena as varied as oceans or atmospheres, or to farmland and deserts? The intensity of environmental change calls for new forms of knowledge production based in propositional thinking, especially design-based methods. Design is a crucial tool in both the imagination and negotiation of alternative futures. Environmental Architecture is a new 15-month, project-based MA programme exploring the future of landscapes, environments and ecosystems. It will focus on the co-dependence of life forms and earth systems as well as the co-existence of alternative concepts of landscapes, environments and ecosystems as they are expressed by different societies. The programme is field-focused. Students will have the opportunity to engage with live projects in sites of rapid and complex environmental change. The programme emphasises comparative, multi-scalar approaches to design research. Students will familiarise themselves with anthropological and ethnographic research methods, and new systems measuring, classifying and capturing data including computational sensing and imaging. Classes and workshops from experts in physical and social sciences complement studio teaching and provide quantitative input to projects as required. Possible areas of enquiry can include: biodiversity, carbon trading, desertification... [-]

MA Material Futures

University of the Arts London
Campus Full time 2 years September 2018 United Kingdom London

Material Futures is a two-year Masters course dedicated to exploring how we will live in the future through trans-disciplinary practice and expert collaboration. [+]

Masters of Arts in Engineering Studies in Europe 2017/2018. The intersection of craft, science and technology. Material Futures is a two-year Masters course dedicated to exploring how we will live in the future through trans-disciplinary practice and expert collaboration. Our aim is to actively re-think the future Through collaboration, risk-taking and blurring the boundaries between craft, science and technology we aim to look beyond existing disciplines to anticipate our future needs, desires and challenges for the 21st century. We encourage a wholly multi-disciplinary approach to design Taking materiality as the starting point of the design process, literally the things we can touch, feel, interact with and observe, we integrate high and low technological materials and processes to respond to the environment around us. Our students explore and come from a diverse range of disciplines, mostly, but not limited to, the worlds of fashion, architecture, industrial, communication, textile, critical, digital and speculative design. Research is intrinsic to our design process. We advocate research-driven design We believe that it is only by observing and analysing how we live today that we can begin to consider and explore how we can live more sustainably tomorrow. Considering the current and future context of design decisions is key to our ethos, combining social, political, scientific and economic inquiry and insights to help inform future design scenarios and speculations. Reasons to apply You’ll be exposed to new materials, processes, technologies and design methodologies and use materiality as a platform to critically interrogate, explore and make sense... [-]

M.A. Mechatronics Mechatronics – a synergistic combination of precision engineering, electronic control and mechanical systems Mechatronics is a relatively new discipline of the applied science, created as a result of deep merging of different fields of technology, such as electronics, mechanics, automation and robotics. Today, in our everyday life, in industry and science we use equipment of very complex structure using state-of-the-art mechanical engineering solutions as well as sophisticated control systems managed by modern electronic hardware and extended software. The aim of MSc studies on mechatronics is to prepare students for independent creative work in scope of analysis and design of mechanical equipment, mechanical design, design rules of electronic systems and industrial automatic control systems. The range of compulsory, optional lectures and laboratory classes was selected to broaden the knowledge of the BSc graduates by elements necessary to understand more complex subjects discussed during MSc studies. Significant advantages of the mechatronics degree programme at University of Economy are modern lab facilities worth mentioning here are the laboratories of microprocessor systems, control systems and renewable energy sources. The gem among the labs is the robotics laboratory, equipped both with professional robots as well as with robot sets for individual assembly and programming by students. We also have the CAD/CAM systems laboratory and multimedia laboratory equipped with Apple computers. Characteristics of the graduate A graduate of this field of study acquires knowledge on mechatronics in a broad sense. This knowledge, in particular, covers mechanics, mechanical engineering and machine operation, electronics, informatics, automatics... [-]
