The Master's program in Gender Studies at the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University in Prague (FHS UK) offers the opportunity for a systematic and interdisciplinary academic study of theoretical and methodological tools for researching and exploring gender issues from a historical perspective, with a consideration of cultural and ethnic aspects of any given topic. Gender studies apply intersectional and interdisciplinary perspectives on gender as one of the basic principles organizing human society and culture. Gender studies focus on the analysis of historical as well as contemporary manifestations of the gender order, the influence of feminist and queer theories and methods in science and research, and other aspects of gender order; they also probe the relationship between gender and other categories of social differentiation and stratification such as race/ethnicity, social status, age, sexuality, and/or disability. One of the specific strengths and an internationally recognized expertise of the gender studies program at the School of Humanities is the emphasis put on analysis and reflection of post-socialist experiences and reflections of gender structuring of the late-socialist Czechoslovak society, and “East European” societies in general. The study program is realized without specialization.

The study program follows on from the bachelor's study program Music Education with a focus on education. The aim of the study program is to provide its graduates with a comprehensive master's degree, which will prepare them for the profession of music teacher at the 2nd level of primary and secondary schools. The study program takes into account the proportionality of the cognitive, didactic, and pedagogical-psychological components of the training, while the field knowledge gained in the bachelor's degree is further systematized and applied in the field of didactics and professional subjects closely related to it. Graduates of the study program are competent to independently create school educational programs in the educational field of Arts and Culture. Musical phenomena and concepts are presented in a broader context and relationships between different types of science and art. The music didactic component is based on the knowledge gained in music pedagogical research and on best practices verified in practice. The music theory and pedagogical component can then be deepened in a doctoral study program, e.g. Music Theory and Pedagogy. The study program in the major plan respects the balance of subject, didactic and pedagogical-psychological components of training according to the standards of teacher training of the Ministry of Education. Pedagogical-psychological training includes subjects of pedagogy, psychology, and special pedagogy, including pedagogical-psychological practice.

The M.A. Historical Sociology cultivates research activities and the education of experts with an emphasis on the specialization of these processes. Above all, historical sociology deals with problems of modernization and social change, globalization trends and influences, integration and disintegration processes, the relationship of continuity and discontinuity, religious and cultural pluralism, linking the global to the local, the identification of the chances and risks of social development, the analysis of conflict situations and the possibility of overcoming them.
