Creative writers express thoughts, feelings and emotions through words and have the ability to inform, provoke, captivate, inspire and move. You approach creative writing from a variety of perspectives – including fiction, poetry, life writing and drama – to explore how writers operate and how you can become an independent writer.
We understand how difficult it can be to find the space and structure to develop your writing - this course makes it easy for you to adapt your weekly studies to your personal circumstances. This course is taught throughout by tutors who are both practising creative writers and experienced teachers of creative writing at postgraduate level. The emphasis is on developing practical writing skills and techniques whilst gaining an understanding of your own work within a critical context and framework. The course consists of four 30-credit taught modules plus the Creative Writing Project (60 credit), which is the final portfolio of your creative writing. A minimum 2.2 Bachelor Honours degree or international equivalent. Applicants who do not meet this requirement may still be considered but will need to present examples of relevant published work with their application.
A creative writing sample (fiction or non-fiction) of up to 3,000 words.
An IELTS 6.0 score (with minimum 5.5 in each skill) if your first language isn’t English (or other English language proficiency qualifications accepted by the University of Hull).
Two references, of which one must be an academic reference, and the other can be a work reference.
