Introduction

The master's degree in German language, literature and culture at the KRE provides specialist knowledge in the areas of German literature, language and culture. With continuously updated teaching focuses and methods, philologists are trained here who have excellent knowledge of German and who can cope with the professional challenges of the 21st century at a high intellectual level. The language of the MA course is German throughout. After the introductory basic modules (advanced basic knowledge of German and specialist knowledge), three specializations are offered, of which the students can freely choose one. The literature, culture, identity specialization focuses on current issues in literary and cultural studies. In particular, the topics of mediality, intermediality, interculturality and cultural identity are dealt with. In the workshop for talent development, interested students can deepen their knowledge in several areas. One linguistic specialization is dedicated to contemporary German and its description . Above all, the change in the German language, its current language-political situation in European countries and the influence of the new media on language change are dealt with in detail. The other linguistic program focuses on lexicography and dictionary research . Students who are interested in the creation of print and online dictionaries acquire practical specialist knowledge of the planning and creation of modern, monolingual and multilingual dictionaries, databases and dictionary design as part of an international MA degree. The European Masters in Lexicography (EMLex) program is an international course in German and English, which is offered jointly by eight European universities with renowned professors. The course includes an Erasmus stay abroad in the 2nd semester. At the end of their studies, students receive a double degree from their home and host university.
