The M.A. in English program develops skills in critical thinking, writing, and research encourages intellectual curiosity and provides training for careers and professional advancement. The program offers two concentrations—Literature and Composition. The two-track curriculum provides two separate fields of study within English, offering multiple career opportunities as well as preparing students for doctoral work.
This program helps students achieve substantial preparation in areas such as writing theories, writing pedagogies, alternative literacies, and the relationship between composition and literature. In coordination with an advisor, students create a program that addresses program requirements and individual needs.
The M.A. in English prepares you for careers such as:
- Teacher/instructor (community college levels)
- Creative writer
- Public relations specialist
