MA Turkish Studies

Duration: One calendar year (full-time); two or three years (part-time, daytime only)

Minimum Entry Requirements: Minimum upper second class honours degree in a social science or humanities subject or equivalent

Start of programme: September intake only

Mode of Attendance: Full Time or Part Time

This programme enables students to engage critically with different aspects of Turkish culture and society. The degree offers comprehensive training in the field of Turkish studies. Drawing on SOAS's wide resources in the field, the programme allows students to combine courses to build a syllabus of study according to their interests. It serves as excellent preparation for research.

Structure

Students take 180 credits, 60 of which are a dissertation and a 120 from taught modules. From the taught modules, 30 credits are selected as a major from List A1, 60 credits are selected from the lists of approved modules for their minor and a further 30 credits may be taken from any list or from the approved open options list.

NB:

  • If the chosen Major module is not a Turkish Studies module (see List A1), students may not take a Minor module on the same subject as their Major.
  • At least one Minor module must be taken from List A1, A2 or A3.
  • No more than one Minor module may be taken from List C. You may not take a module from List C if you are taking a module from List A3.

Core Module (Major)

Students must take 30 credits from the list below as their major. NB: If the chosen Major module is not from this list, students may not take a Minor module on the same subject as their Major.
