MA International Human Resource Management
The International Human Resource Management MA has been designed in response to demand for a specialist Master's programme that addresses the issues involved in the management of people across international borders. The programme builds on our highly successful Human Resource Management MA, which focuses more specifically on the domestic marketplace.
The programme has been recently updated following a comprehensive review and is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Successful completion of the programme leads to graduate membership of this prestigious institute. The programme also aligns with the standards of the US-based Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) - the world's largest association devoted to human resource management.
Who is the programme for?
The programme is aimed at graduates from any discipline who want to learn about the management of people in international businesses and who wish to pursue an international management career working trans-nationally as opposed to working within a single country.
Graduates from the programme will be able to follow a wide range of business management careers in global corporations, trans-European companies, management consultancy and management education and training.
Professional skill development
Candidates are encouraged to develop the critical self-analysis and personal skills that underpin future career development and support the process of lifelong learning. The emphasis on skill development also helps candidates to meet the professional development requirements of the CIPD.
The programme is modular in structure, compromising 180 credits, which are studied on a full-time basis over 12 months. All students will take the following compulsory modules:
- Semester one:
- Human resources in management context (15 credits)
- Developing skills for business leadership (15 credits)
- International resourcing and talent management (15 credits)
- Research methods in human resource management (15 credits)
- Semester two:
- Leadership and management development (15 credits)
- Understanding and implementing coaching and mentoring (15 credits)
- Managing international employment relations (15 credits)
- International leading, managing and developing people (15 credits)
- Semester three:
- Dissertation (60 credits)
Modules will be offered subject to availability.
Applicants should hold an upper-second class degree (2:1 level) or international equivalent. Every application is considered on an individual basis and applicants who narrowly miss the academic entry criteria may be eligible for admission at the discretion of the selector. A minimum of two years continuous work experience is required in a relevant field for those without an undergraduate/higher or equivalent degree.
Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with a minimum of 6.0 in all sub-scores. Pre-sessional courses in English language are provided by the University if required and successful completion of these may be a condition of entry.
