Political decisions give direction to society. But how are political decisions made? This one-year graduate program provides you with specialist, in-depth knowledge of decision-making in politics. We study political decision-making from the perspective of the citizen, the politician, the policy professional, and institutions, using cases from local, national, European and international politics. During this master program, you will learn the science, craft, and art of political decision-making an prepare for a career in politics, policymaking, public affairs, research, consultancy or the media. The program is structured around a set of four core obligatory courses and one skills lab.
The skills lab is a unique teaching method which allows you to practice some of the core skills involved in political decision-making, such as argumentation, negotiation, and lobbying. It provides insights beyond the usual lists of dos and don'ts. We not only demonstrate which approaches are most effective, but also explain why. The skills will be trained in practice by means of exercises and short simulations, using real-life situations and feedback from professionals.
