M.Ed. at Reston Center

Marymount University offers a Master of Education degree with teaching licensure for elementary or secondary grades through its Reston Center, as well as its nonlicensure Master of Education in Professional Studies. You can earn your degree in two years of part-time study in weekend classes. These cohort programs are ideal for career switchers who have an undergraduate degree in a discipline other than Education and now wish to teach. It is designed specifically for students who have full-time commitments Monday through Friday during the day.

The program begins in late August with classes meeting on Friday evenings and Saturdays in the fall and spring semesters. In the summer semester, students meet in consecutive weekends from mid-May through mid-July. This allows for a substantial break from mid-July through the latter part of August.

During the last semester, students in a M.Ed. licensure program must be able to student teach. Students in the Professional Studies program may continue to work and keep full-time commitments throughout the program, as this is not a licensure program with student teaching.

These programs are also offered on the Main Campus in a self-paced traditional format, with classes in late afternoon and evening. Most students complete the Main Campus program in two to three years.

This school offers programs in:
