MA in Chinese Literature, Language and Culture is a graduate programme for part-time and full-time students.
The programme aims to cultivate in students a deeper knowledge of Chinese culture and broaden their vision with new perspectives to prepare them in meeting the challenges of the changing society. It enhances students’ Chinese language skills and cultural literacy, which are particularly essential for professions such as education, media and cultural management.
Students are required to take 27 units of course work including the Project Report of 3 units. All requirements are normally completed in two years (part-time) or one year (full-time).
The majority of courses will be taught in the evenings (6:30 – 9:20p.m.) of weekdays or Saturday mornings during the semester. Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.50 for graduation. Those who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.40 and 3.67 will graduate with "Merit" and "Distinction" respectively
Requirements of the programme are as follows
Required Courses 9 units (including Research Method & Seminar 6 units and Project Report 3 units)
Electives 18 units
The courses are classified into three areas, namely: (1) Literature, (2) Language and (3) Culture. Students are required to take at least ONE elective course in each area and choose ONE area as concentration. They are required to take ONE MORE elective course in the concentrated area, in which they write their Project Report in the final semester. The total number of elective courses required for graduation is 6. It must be noted that only a certain number of courses would be offered in a year.
The medium of instruction is mainly Putonghua. It will be clearly indicated in the registration period.
Four scholarships of HK$42,000 each are awarded annually to students with outstanding academic performance (whose cumulative GPAs are no less than 3.67). The amount of a scholarship is pegged at half of the total programme tuition fee and would be adjusted accordingly.
