Higher Education in Kuwait
One of the best known institutions of higher learning in Kuwait is Kuwait University. It was originally established as a co-educational institution in 1966. It has five different campuses in Kuwait City and the number of students attending has increased dramatically from 400 at its inception to over 19,700 in 2006. The university offers a wide variety of courses, including a study of Business, Law, and Education. Business and work-related skills are especially focused on in Kuwait today due to the great need for higher level skills to help the economy. Kuwait University and other schools focus mainly on business and law while the technical institutions focus on more vocational and workforce related skills.
Tuition fees vary according to the program someone wishes to enter. Tuition costs have gone down a bit in the past ten years or so, to allow for more people to attend, which may account for the rise in enrollment in some of the well-known institutes of higher learning. More doors have been opened to women as well as some of the older traditions of the eastern world have been altered in favor of progress for the greater good of the country. There are a variety of programs available for both genders and students from any background are encouraged to attend.
Eligibility for Student Visas
Student visas are available for students wishing to study in an institute of higher learning in Kuwait. Applications may be made through the Kuwait embassy or from the embassy in your country of origin. Additional paperwork made be required in some cases to ensure validation of your identity is obtained. It is best to obtain the necessary paperwork from your home embassy rather than trying to obtain one from Kuwait once there. Student visas are generally good as long as the student is enrolled in an institute of higher learning in Kuwait. Part-time students are not guaranteed a visa. The government prefers students who come to Kuwait for the purpose of educational advancement to work on it exclusively on a full-time basis. There may be some exceptions made to this idea however.

Information on Kuwait universities is available with the governmental offices upon arrival but it is strongly encouraged that students apply and do all the necessary paperwork before arriving. The people of Kuwait are involved in a continual state of change as the progress involved in technology and other fields has influenced the state of things.
