The Master's Degree in Classical Philology has the purpose of creating a teaching framework aimed at training students in research, which integrates, on the one hand, different areas of knowledge in the field of Humanities with the common denominator of the study of the Classical World and its survival (studies of Indo-European Linguistics, studies of Greek Linguistics and Literature and studies of Latin, Medieval, Renaissance and Classical tradition Linguistics and Literature), and on the other, practically all the public universities of the Community of Madrid, which allows a diversified, attractive and quality offer to students with interests in all these areas of knowledge linked to the study of the Classic World from the linguistic and literary perspective.

Recipients

The Master's Degree in Classical Philology is recommended and, therefore, it admits graduates and graduates in Philology and Humanities in general (Philosophy, History, Art History, etc.), although other access routes may be considered due to the nature of the studies, as well as the presumable access of students from other countries. It will be necessary to have previous knowledge of the subjects taught in these degrees, as well as specific knowledge related to the Greek and Latin languages and literatures that are the object of study within the Master.

Why study this master?

The professional projection that can be expected from graduates in the proposed Master's Degree is highly versatile. The most common until now had been to form a cadre of middle school teachers capable of teaching the subjects of Classical Culture, Latin and Greek in ESO and Baccalaureate with absolute solvency and didactic dynamism, something that has now been subsumed In the University Master's Degree in Teacher Training that graduates or graduates have to take for the professional exercise of teaching, but for which the present Master's Degree in Classical Philology can be a complement of extraordinary usefulness and benefit. However, graduates of this Master's Degree may also exercise their functions in the services and cultural industry sectors. Likewise, they will be able to carry out their profession in the publishing industry and in that connected to the dissemination of information and historical culture and in institutes of culture and research of a specific type, in governmental and local institutions dedicated to the recovery of Historical Heritage, traditions and local identities.

In addition, and what is the main object of the Master's Degree, they will be able to access the research activity in the various philological research centers on Antiquity. In this sense, and thanks to the breadth of research lines implemented in the different participating universities, the fields of research open to students are extremely varied. They not only allow them to deepen their knowledge of the linguistic and literary tradition of Classical Antiquity and the sciences related to these disciplines, which, as has been said ad nauseam, constitute the linguistic, historical and cultural basis of Europe, but also It offers the possibility of undertaking in a highly solvent way the journey through the path of research that leads to the preparation of a doctoral thesis thanks to the high profile and professional and investigative experience of the group of professors from all the departments involved in teaching the Master .

Admission requirements for masters

Non-enabling university masters

  • Be in possession of any of the following titles:
    • Spanish official university degree .
    • Title issued by an institution of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and empowering in the country of issue for access to Master's education.
    • Title of educational systems outside the EHEA that empowers in the country of issuance for access to Master's education, homologated or declared equivalent to the degree and academic level of Degree or Degree by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training . In case of lacking the mentioned homologation or equivalency, it will be necessary to have authorization or access permission granted by this University.
  • Or be carrying out during the course in which you pre-enroll studies leading to the obtaining of any of the previous degrees and be in a position to prove the obtaining of the same before September 30, 2020 .
  • In addition, students from foreign educational systems, whose mother tongue is different from Spanish, must prove level B2 of the Spanish language (or higher) .
