About

The Master in Audiovisual Translation and Localization (UAM-UCM) offers advanced, multidisciplinary and technological training in Translation. The study plan addresses three areas with increasing demand: the different techniques and processes of audiovisual translation; the location of digital content, products and services of all kinds; and managing translation projects at language service providers.

It also provides students with transversal competences in translation project management and quality assurance and quality control in language service providers. As a unifying element of this training, the use of technologies to reinforce productivity and quality, both in processes and results, prevails.

The specific orientation of the University Master's Degree consists in improving the practical execution of linguistic and interlingual products and services, especially those in which computer applications and management and quality processes are concerned, both personal, business and institutional.

It is intended that graduates reach an advanced level of training and with capacities for the execution of tasks, at the same time that they develop a capacity for analysis and orientation towards quality in the development of the same -production- and their business processes and management -pre and post-production-, including the management of suppliers and clients in those professional sectors in which the acquired skills are useful.

Recipients

  1. Graduates in Translation and Interpretation, with a good knowledge of at least two languages, as well as graduates of the system prior to the launch of the European Convergence, in any of the specialties devoted to the world of Translation and Interpretation.
  2. Graduates or graduates in other specializations such as Modern Languages, Computer Engineering, Language Technologies with a good knowledge of at least two modern languages.
  3. Graduates or graduates in any other specialty, whose professional curriculum demonstrates a practical and theoretical ability to pursue the proposed studies.

In any case, graduates or graduates from non-linguistic specialties must provide documentary proof of knowledge of, at least, the Spanish language with a minimum C1 level of the CEFR, and the English language with a minimum C1 level.

Why study this master?

The main objective of the University Master's Degree is to facilitate professional insertion in the different related profiles:

Audiovisual translation in its different modalities: subtitling; dubbing; voice-over; supratitulation in live shows (opera, theater); accessibility for people with functional diversity (subtitling for deaf people and audio description for blind people).

  • Treatment of multimedia content.
  • Location.
  • Evaluation and design of applications. Technical verification (tester and beta-tester).
  • Management of translation, localization and other value-added services.
  • Quality assurance: evaluation and revision of translations, post-editing.
  • Strategic production and quality processes: contracting, customer management, vendor management, etc.
  • Freelance or in-company translator.
  • Linguistic services and advice, multilingual documentation for the audiovisual industry, publishing and institutions.
  • Management and treatment of formats and documents. Professional publishing (DTP, design).
  • University teaching and research in Translation and Technologies.

Admission requirements for masters

Non-enabling university masters

  • Be in possession of any of the following titles:
    • Spanish official university degree .
    • Title issued by an institution of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and empowering in the country of issue for access to Master's education.
    • Title of educational systems outside the EHEA that empowers in the country of issuance for access to Master's education, homologated or declared equivalent to the degree and academic level of Degree or Degree by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training . In case of lacking the mentioned homologation or equivalency, it will be necessary to have authorization or access permission granted by this University.
  • Or be carrying out during the course in which you pre-enroll studies leading to the obtaining of any of the previous degrees and be in a position to prove the obtaining of the same before September 30, 2020 .
  • In addition, students from foreign educational systems, whose mother tongue is different from Spanish, must prove level B2 of the Spanish language (or higher) .
