The International Master of Science in Environmental Technology and Engineering (IMETE) is a Joint Master Degree Programme, taught in English, bringing together students and scholars from all over the world.
In IMETE, you will become part of a new generation of environmental scientists. As a graduate, you will be able to design and apply state-of-the-art environmental technology and engineering solutions to tackle today’s global environmental problems.
You will study two years at three leading European universities in 3 different European countries: Ghent University (Belgium), IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (The Netherlands), and the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (Czech Republic).
Semester 1 UCT Prague, Czech Republic
The University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (UCT) is a public university known for both the depth and broadness of its educational and research activities in almost all branches of chemistry, biochemistry, refining, water treatment, power and biological sciences and technologies.
Semester 2 IHE Delft, The Netherlands
IHE Delft Institute for Water Education is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world. Since 1957 the Institute has provided graduate education to more than 15,000 water professionals from over 162 countries, the vast majority from the developing world.
Semester 3 Ghent University, Belgium
Ghent University distinguishes itself as a socially committed and pluralistic institution in a broad international perspective. It offers high-quality, research-based education in all academic disciplines, and attracts over 32,000 students, including a large international student population.
This is followed by the thesis research at one of the three above institutions in SEMESTER 4.
IMETE also allows you to visit any of the numerous associated partners from all over the world for thesis research. These partners also contribute to the programme by visiting scholars and researchers.
Once graduated, you obtain a joint degree from the 3 universities and are an "International Master of Science in Environmental Technology and Engineering".
As a graduate of IMETE, you are ready for a professional career in:
the private sector (environmental technological applications in different domains),
the research sector (applied research at universities or research institutions, or in-company research), or
the public sector (consulting in local, regional and (inter)national administrations, defining and implementing an environmental policy for sustainable development).
The IMETE programme takes two years to complete and starts yearly in September at UCT in Prague. In February of the next year, students move to Delft, the Netherlands and in September students move to Gent. Finally, in February of the 3rd year, students start their thesis research at one of the three academic institutions or at an associated partner.
Submission deadline for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship application is 15 January 2019 for applicants from Partner Countries and 15 February 2019 for applicants from Programme Countries. Applications received after this date will be taken into consideration for academic admission, but not for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. In those cases, you need to submit your application before 15 May 2019.
In case you meet the academic admission requirements, ultimate financial confirmation is needed before 1 June 2019 at the latest. However, with regard to long visa procedures for the Czech Republic, you are strongly advised to send your financial confirmation well before this date. If you do not need a visa for the Czech Republic the deadline of application is 1 August 2019.
The International Master in Environmental Technology and Engineering (IMETE) has the following admission requirements:
A. Proof that the applicant has successfully accomplished a first degree of higher education equivalent to a B.Sc. degree (equivalent to 180 credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)) with a good final mark as shown by a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least B/B+ (US System) or a classification of at least 2nd upper (UK system), in one of the following subjects: pure or applied sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, civil or agricultural engineering, environmental or agricultural sciences, etc.). Sufficient academic knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry is an absolute requirement.
Note A.1 Applications may already be submitted before the first degree of higher education (usually B.Sc.) has been successfully finished if at least 120 ECTS of the programme have been successfully completed. If the applicant meets all of the other admission requirements, admission can be granted on the condition that the first degree of higher education must be successfully finished by 15 July preceding to the start year of the programme.
B. Evidence of qualification in one of the internationally-recognised English language tests. More information on the English language requirements can be found here.
Note B.1 Applicants who are required to provide proof of English language proficiency who do not yet possess the results of the test can apply for admission and scholarship now, however, the ultimate deadline that the test result should be in our possession is 1 April 2019. Those applicants will also be taken into consideration for scholarship award and can be selected for a scholarship or placed on the reserve list. If no sufficient English test results have been received by 1 April 2019, the candidate will no longer be eligible for a scholarship.

Environmental technology and engineering is – more than other disciplines – based on international cooperation in business and research. Therefore, our approach prepares you, as students, for a professional career.
You study in three universities and three countries, in English. Thus you gain a highly valued multi-cultural experience by studying with other students from all over the world, mostly students from developing countries and countries in transition.
Upon graduation, you are a Master in Environmental Technology and Engineering and are qualified for a professional career in:
the private sector: worldwide environmental technology applications (Best Available Technologies) and consulting in the domains of treatment of wastewater and waste gas, soil and sediment remediation, solid waste management, and development and application of clean technologies.
Research: applied research at universities or research institutions, or in-company research.
the Governmental or (semi)public sector: environmental technology and engineering applications and consulting in local and regional administrations and different types of regulations (e.g. implementation of the European Directives) or local governance as environmental experts defining and implementing environmental policy for sustainable development, in European and other developed as well as developing countries and countries in transition.
