Description

The European Master of Contemporary Photography is, today, the most ambitious proposal in training in artistic photography and aspires to be a meeting point for artists and professionals for the enrichment of this field in Spain.

Practical and innovative, it is a unique program based on the excellence of its teachers (Martin Parr, Irina Chmyreva, Joan Fontcuberta and Andreas Müller-Pohle, among others) that is born from the premise that there is a European conceptual and creative identity and that this it is and must be a reference of the first order in the academic, cultural and art markets. In this sense, the participation of students from very different continents is especially interesting and enriching.

Consequently, the European Master of Contemporary Photography is based on three fundamental pillars:

  • International character, with a special focus on the European environment.
  • Excellence of the teaching staff
  • Orientation to artistic project.

Methodology

The methodology of the European Master of Contemporary Photography is based mainly on workshops with high-level artists and theorists. The workshops last from one to eight days, with a weekly or biweekly frequency. These meetings help the student to develop a personal vision and place their work within the broad theoretical and contemporary artistic framework. In addition, group and individual work, tutorials and visits to companies, studios, etc. are carried out, which maximize the talent and creativity of the student. A fundamental element of the didactic of the master's degree is its orientation towards the personal project and its exhibition, as well as the personalized assistance.

IED Madrid is located in the heart of the city, a dynamic, accessible and sustainable capital that represents a model of avant-garde culture, the perfect place for the exchange of creative ideas. Madrid offers an extensive leisure program (conferences, theater, cinemas, concerts, festivals ...) and a wide range of museums and cultural events (the National Library, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, La Casa Encendida, Reina Sofia Art Center ...), which makes it one of the great cultural references in Europe.
