Program Description

Advanced Materials Science & Engineering (AMASE) Master

AMASE Master

The AMASE Masters course has been successfully implemented over the last five years with funding from the Erasmus Mundus Programme. Scholarships are available for students from all over the world and are between 500 EUR and 1000 EUR per month. The course has demonstrated high quality throughout. In order to ensure the programme's continuity - the "non-selected status" may prove temporary and only last until the next call - the consortium delivering this Joint Masters course has been awarded by the European Commission/EACEA an Erasmus Mundus Brand Name (EMBN) by which it commits itself to maintain the requirements and level of excellence expected from an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course.

The common Advanced Materials Science and Engineering (AMASE) Master Programme is offered by four European Universities.

The Consortium

Universität des Saarlandes (UdS)Saarbrücken, Germany

Saarland University (Germany) (Coordinator)

Université de Lorraine (UL) Nancy, France

Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) Barcelona, Spain

Program Introduction

The common Advanced Materials Science and Engineering (AMASE) Master Programme is offered by four European Universities.

It is based on an existing European Engineering Study Programme EEIGM (Ecole Europénne d'Ingénieurs en Génie des Matériaux) and is supported by the FEMS (Federation of European Materials Societies) through its founding member the DGM (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde).

The European consortium has established partnerships with several third-countries institutions.

The aim of the Masters programme is to provide:

  • A well-integrated language and cultural experience.
  • Education in close relation to the research activities of the four consortium members.
  • Education in advanced materials, to enhance the innovation potential of the students in their future activities.
  • Preparation of the students for life-long learning in new places and new education/work systems.
  • Enhancement of networking activities within the EU and with third countries in the field of research and education.

The combined and harmonised teaching and research programmes of the four member universities offer:

  • A far greater variety of competences in the field of materials science and engineering than provided by a single university.
  • A significant added value for the students in terms of opportunities for specialisation.
  • A broad spectrum on research possibilities, from fundamental to industry-related research.
  • The transfer of individual university-profiles to the whole programme.

The AMASE Programme addresses both European and overseas BSc graduates in science or engineering.

Entry Requirements

  • BSc. or equivalent in the field of materials science and engineering, physics, chemistry, or other engineering disciplines.
    • Students can still apply if they won't have finished their studies within our application deadline. In this case, please make sure to attach a professor's note to your application attesting that you will have finished your studies until August 31st the same year.
