Teaching & Assessment
There are two intakes each year - January and September. The course lasts for 12 months. Modules start at the beginning of the academic session and are taught through a mixture of lectures and tutorials. The degree consists of five compulsory modules, two optional modules, plus a dissertation. The course is academically rigorous, drawing on current strategy, change management, corporate governance and accounting theory. It is practically relevant, helping you apply knowledge and develop generally transferable skills such as problem-solving, team-working and collaboration.
How you will be taught
Teaching methods include lectures, workshops, group work and student presentations. The modules are designed to encourage you to think analytically and critically about the ways in which modern business organisations create and use information, in both operational and strategic contexts.
How you will be assessed
Modules are examined in December and April/ May. Students complete their supervised decision during the summer. The dissertation takes around three months to complete with a final draft to be submitted in August.
The course begins with a two-week foundation module to bring all students up to a common minimum standard in management and business statistics. The foundation module also introduces you to the University’s learning resources (e.g. the library and study skills support) and encourages you to work in ‘teams’ exchanging your intellectual assets for your mutual benefit.

Our campus is right in the heart of Dundee’s vibrant and fun West End, with shops, cafes and restaurants all on your doorstep.
“Scottish people are nice and friendly. I remember the first day I arrived, the fellow who was supposed to meet me was not there yet. The taxi driver dropped me off, I knocked on the door and he was not there, so I was waiting outside. Someone came and asked if I was okay and invited me in while I waited. He welcomed me and gave me food and drink, so I started to love the people of Dundee and Scotland from the first day I came.” Willy William Mrema is from Tanzania and is studying MSc Geotechnical Engineering.
