Applicants must complete the equivalent of a B.B.A. degree in accounting from an accredited institution or must enroll in the MACY core courses plus certain accounting courses set out by the Coordinator of Graduate Programs in Accounting. Students whose background is in business but who have completed MACY core courses or their equivalents seven or more years before entering the program may be required by the MACY Admissions Committee to successfully complete or test out of the MACY core courses. Master of Science Degree in Applied StatisticsThe Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Applied Statistics includes instruction in a broad range of applied statistical methods and computational tools to prepare students for careers as government, industrial, or academic statisticians, or to pursue doctoral studies in statistics.

 

In this age of advanced technology, there is an increasing demand for trained individuals who understand the nature of designing experiments, making predictions and forecasts, and analyzing large complex datasets.  In response to this demand, the Master of Science degree in Applied Statistics has been implemented at UTSA.  The program will include instruction in a broad range of statistical methods and applied computational tools to equip students to pursue careers in government, health science centers, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries, financial institutions, or to continue to doctoral study in statistics.Graduates of the degree (the former MS in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics and MS in Statistics) are employed as statisticians throughout the community at The UT Health Science Center, Fort Sam Houston, PPD Pharmaco, ILEX Oncology, USAA and Southwest Research Institute. In addition, several graduates have earned doctoral degrees at such schools as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Chicago. The MS in Applied Statistics will further enhance job opportunities for its graduates with the emphasis on applied courses and the implementation of statistical methodologies using SAS and R.... The Master of Science in Finance degree offers the opportunity for intensive education in finance to qualified graduate students and will be available to individuals with undergraduate degrees in business administration, as well as to those with specializations outside the business field. Candidates with an undergraduate degree in strong quantitative areas including, but not limited to, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or engineering are most likely to benefit from the degree.The Master of Science in Finance Graduate Studies Committee may require students with undergraduate degrees in a nonbusiness field to complete specific undergraduate courses and/or specific M.B.A. core courses to remove deficiencies. The degree requires 33 semester credit hours of graduate work in addition to hours that may be required to remove deficiencies. Required courses are in three broad categories: Foundations of Knowledge, finance courses and electives. Students have the option of choosing elective courses from a number of areas in finance.
