If you already have experience in the public sector, ODU's MPA program will provide you with the opportunity to enhance your professional knowledge, skills, and abilities to advance your careers. Even if you have little or no experience in these areas, you can build a foundation for future success with this degree. This program is designed to enhance your knowledge and competencies in five context areas: Public management processes, including public budgeting and personnel systems; Organizational design processes and behavior; Political, legal, and ethical concepts and issues of public administration; Quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques; and Policy analysis and program evaluation. ODU's Public Administration program is NASPAA accredited by the Commission on Peer Review & Accreditation. Required Courses 39 credit hours You must complete a core curriculum of seven courses, and six electives. We also offer a certificate program in Public Procurement and Contract Management as a five course elective series. Talk with an advisor to determine if you have credits that will transfer. This program is meant for students with a strong background in computer science. ODU's Computer Science Department supports in-depth study at the graduate level in areas such as bioinformatics, data mining, digital libraries, high performance computing, networking, cyber security, software engineering, and computational foundations. The final comprehensive exam consists of a written project report and oral presentation of the results. In this rapidly changing technological world, a graduate engineering degree is often required to hold professional positions in the industry, and in federal, state and municipal government agencies. ODU's online environmental engineering program is designed to give you the in-depth knowledge you need to take the next step in your career. Learn from experienced ODU engineering faculty with a wide variety of specialties and research interests. Choose from the Master of Science degree with a thesis, or a Master of Engineering degree with a final project/course option. Thesis and project research can be completed at main campus using state-of-the-art facilities, or on-site at your current employment location. Both options will be facilitated through close interaction with a research faculty advisor. Written, oral and visual communication (web conferencing) make the thesis/project research effort comparable with students on main campus. Required courses The Master of Science degree requires twenty-four credit hours of graduate courses and six hours of thesis credit, including a final oral exam. The oral exam can be completed via web conferencing. The Master of Engineering degree has two options: Project or Course. The Project option requires twenty-seven credit hours of graduate course work plus a three-credit-hour project. The Course option requires thirty credit hours of graduate course work and a written final comprehensive exam covering the entire program of study.
