Studies have found that most successful companies are managed by people with experience in the core business of the company. In the case of technology-based companies, this means engineers or other technically oriented individuals. Too often, the lack of a solid background in management has prevented engineers from rising to decision-making positions.MSOE's Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) graduate program is based on the philosophy that, for American companies to grow and compete internationally, their technical personnel must have the tools to effectively manage and participate in the decision-making process. Success in developing and deploying new products depends in large part on providing products that can compete with global competition in existing markets, as well as new markets. Effective new product management is a critical success factor. The Master of Science in New Product Management (MSNP) degree program provides students a framework to enhance an organization's ability to effectively identify, develop and deploy new products and services. You will learn how to effectively apply tools and knowledge needed to find the products and/or services that are aligned with the unique strengths and position of an organization, including reputation, capabilities (current and needed), market opportunities and resources. Further, the MSNP will prepare you to identify and capitalize on both domestic and international product markets. In the early 21st century, there developed the belief that the U.S.would evolve from a manufacturing-based to a service-based country. It has become apparent that the U.S. economy cannot be sustained without competitive, new products being developed and manufactured here. This has resulted in more companies rethinking their strategies of moving operations and sourcing to countries overseas, and strategies based on reducing the time from inception of ideas to launch of new products and services in domestic operations, as well as costs to provide the new products and services. The MSNP provides the knowledge, tools and techniques for individuals and companies to explore avenues to retain knowledge, jobs and technology in the United States.... [-]

M.S. in Engineering

Program Overview

There is a growing demand for engineering professionals who are capable of applying combined engineering disciplines. Traditionally, graduate education in the United States has focused on creating specialists - people who can advance the frontiers of knowledge in a narrow field. However, the best solutions to technical problems increasingly fall outside the confines of any one discipline. Some of the greatest advances in engineering yet to come will be the result of cross-disciplinary application of technology.MSOE's Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) program is an interdisciplinary engineering program with primary emphases in the areas of electrical engineering (EE) and mechanical engineering (ME). A key component of the MSE program is the breadth of engineering background that students gain in areas of systems engineering, EE and ME. Additionally, each student is offered some degree of concentration through the selection of an engineering option and electives. ... [-]
