Introduction

The College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) serves the adult population with a variety of programs designed to meet the educational needs of specific adult audiences. Indiana Wesleyan University understands the special requirements of adults who are interested in receiving an associate, bachelor, or master degree, but who must also continue meeting their professional and personal commitments. The programs in the college are designed for those working adults by combining theory with practical experience.

More than ever, working adults are choosing IWU's College of Adult and Professional Studies. IWU has now become the fastest-growing university in Indiana and one of the fastest in the U.S. IWU has grown by more than 200 percent since 1990 to educate more than 11,400 students this year, 9,000 of whom are taking courses online or at our educational centers in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

The growing popularity of our program reflects its design to meet the specific educational needs of adult audiences. Indiana Wesleyan University understands the special requirements of adults who are interested in receiving an associate, bachelor or master degree while continuing to keep their professional and personal commitments. The programs in the college are designed for those working adults by combining theory with practical experience and offering that material in a convenient format.

The delivery format and curriculum structure are specifically designed for working adults. Undergraduate and graduate degree programs are conveniently offered through evening, Saturday, and online (via the Internet) classes. Site-based classes are held at 11 education and conference centers: Indianapolis (2), Fort Wayne, Shelbyville, Kokomo, and Columbus, Ind.; Louisville and Lexington, Ky.; and Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Dayton, Ohio. Classes are also held at more than 80 off-campus locations in Indiana.

In addition to its instructional programs, CAPS provides off-campus support services for all of its classes. Students may access special university library services by telephone, fax, e-mail or mail, and will receive assistance with research or bibliographic questions. It is the goal of CAPS not merely to provide classes, but to provide an "extended university" designed to meet the needs of both students and their employers bringing quality education without requiring students to relocate.

Indiana Wesleyan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission* and a member of the North Central Association. IWU is also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

CAPS now has more than 23,000 graduates representative of learning partnerships with more than 500 employers, school districts, corporations, health-care agencies and organizations.

This program is designed to further develop the skills of classroom teachers. Development of practical approaches to educational challenges is a major goal of the program. [+]

The curriculum and instruction program leading to a Master of Education Degree (M.Ed.) is designed to further develop the skills of classroom teachers. Development of practical approaches to educational challenges is a major goal of the program.Completion of thirty-six (36) semester hours at the graduate level is required for graduation. A core program, consisting of ten (10) courses and thirty (30) semester hours will be offered in sequence to cohorts of professionals. Up to six (6) semester hours of graduate courses in education may be transferred from regionally accredited institutions. Courses may be used to renew an Indiana license. Professionalization of a license requires completion of the master\'s degree and semester hours in specific academic disciplines. Students should seek the counsel of their advisor if they are planning to professionalize their license.The program is designed to provide maximum convenience to the student in that courses are scheduled on Saturdays, registration may be completed by mail, payment may be made with VISA and MasterCard, books will be delivered to the students, and extra charges, such as parking fees, will not be assessed. A four hour seminar is held at the beginning of the program to introduce students to IWU and to give students an overall understanding of the Master of Education program.... [-]
