Davenport was founded as a school of business in 1866. Business programs have been the foundation of Davenport's reputation and growth over the past 137 years. Since its transformation to a university, Davenport's business school remains the largest school within the institution, with more than 36 majors and specialties offered in diplomas, associate's and bachelor's degrees, and post baccalaureate certificates. This has resulted in Davenport having one of the largest business student enrollments in Michigan and northern Indiana. There are currently in excess of 7,000 students pursuing certificate and degree programs in the School of Business.
U.S. Department of Labor projections through 2012 show that of the top five industries with the fastest growing employment rate and wage growth, three are in business-related fields.
