What is it?

This flexible programme is a part-time Masters level programme for current practising managers who wish to enhance their effectiveness and confidence in the workplace. It provides a rounded introduction to the principles of management and is designed to have immediate relevance and application in your current role whilst also providing potential for future progression in both study and career. The programme allows you to achieve a Masters level qualification in 3 stages, or leave and rejoin the programme after the Certificate or Diploma stages. Once you have the Diploma, all you need to achieve the MA is to complete the module in Research Skills and a dissertation. As the programme focuses on core management skills and practice, it is applicable to both public and private enterprises, the profit and not for profit sectors and small to large organisations.... The MSc International Business has been carefully crafted to reflect the complex, dynamic and multi-faceted character of this contemporary subject area. There has never been a more exciting time to study international business as it enters a period of dramatic change. How will it help me? The focus is very much on developing you to acquire the skills and attributes necessary for leadership, entrepreneurship and policy-making of tomorrow in management, strategy and decision-making and communication. What will I study? If you choose to specialise in marketing or finance, through elective modules and a dissertation in these areas, you may be awarded the MSc International Business with Marketing, MSc International Business with Finance. Research methods runs through the whole programme as preparation for your dissertation in Term 3. How will it be assessed? Assessments will take a number of forms including presentations, reports, case study analysis, group work and reflective pieces. There are no examinations in this programme. Where will I study? The programme is delivered at the Canterbury campus, within sight of the famous Canterbury Cathedral, and five minutes’ walk from the city centre. Where will it take me? With a strong emphasis on the development of employment skills, graduates go on to pursue careers in business, management or policy making. Some also engage in further research on the MPhil/PhD programme. This changing face of the financial services industry calls for new thinking about the role of the financial markets, and creativity in the management of portfolios to provide unique solutions to unique problems posed by the recent financial crisis. Overall Summary • The changing face of the financial services industry calls for new thinking about the role of the financial markets and creativity in the management of portfolios, to provide unique solutions to unique problems posed by the recent financial crisis. This programme is a specialist finance programme which has been carefully crafted to respond to these unique challenges by providing you with the necessary tools to succeed in this environment. Moreover, the programme will offer you the opportunity to gain Chartered Wealth Management (CWM) status with the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments (CISI), in addition to the MSc award. Main features of the Programme: • Study the ever-changing world of finance, investment and wealth management after the global banking and European sovereign debt crises • Develop a critical understanding of the global financial market environment with access to our state-of-the-art Bloomberg Trading Room • Explore issues in financial markets, portfolio management and construction and applied wealth management, supported by experienced, research-active staff • Additional option to gain CWM status from the CISI, a world leading professional body in the financial services industry. What will I gain? You will develop a clear understanding of the global financial market environment as well the quantitative tools and research skills to put theory into practice. You will undertake independent research in a topic area of interest to you and may lead to publication. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of seminars and conferences, and benefit from the School’s strong links with the City of London. Additionally, we will offer you the option to take the CISI exams to gain Chartered Wealth Management status. This will set you apart to potential employers in the financial services industry in that it provides you with formal training in the market. Taking the CISI exams will have no bearing on the MSc. What will I study? The first term will cover Investment element and term two looks at the Wealth Management component. The programme covers financial markets, the theory of portfolio construction and management, investment planning and applied wealth management. However, the focus is on the development of the person, namely acquiring the knowledge and skills to succeed in the financial services industry. Where will I study? Our Canterbury campus is within sight of the famous Canterbury Cathedral, and five minutes’ walk from the city centre.
