The Abdullah Gül University (AGU) is a young, dynamic top-quality Turkish State University and already one of the best in the country.

The University opened its doors in July 2010 with the aim to produce graduates who can shape the future, equipped with the best skills for today’s globalized society.

AGU is the first State University in Turkey with legal provision for support by a private foundation (including many prominent figures of Turkey), which is solely dedicated to the University and its objectives.

As the pioneer of third-generation universities, AGU places great emphasis on interdisciplinary research, university-industry collaboration and innovative teaching. AGU is a research university that embraces solution seeking for global challenges.

In order to achieve this, AGU aims to attract brilliant faculty members and the brightest students, who, as AGU graduates, will be typified by their ability to think, research, work in an interdisciplinary fashion and to lead and who will be trained to work anywhere in the world.

Therefore proficiency in English is fundamental and all our programs are taught 100% in English. English education at AGU continues after our Preparatory Program (at the AGU School of Languages) and plays an important role in the academic and social life of our students.

100% English Institution

Proficiency in English is fundamental, therefore all programs are taught 100% in English. The AGU School of Languages (AGUSL) has three fundamental goals:

  • To ensure that all students who are about to enter an AGU faculty are empowered to function effectively in English in the study programs they will follow.
  • To ensure that all students who graduate from an AGU faculty are empowered to communicate effectively and function professionally in English.
  • To offer all students the opportunity to gain some familiarity with a second foreign language that has world significance.

MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAM IN ADVANCED MATERIALS AND NANOTECHNOLOGY (AM&N) (100% in English) WHAT IS MATERIALS SCIENCE AND NANOTECHNOLOGY? The famous talk entitled “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom” by renowned theoretical physicist Richard Feynman seeded the concept of nanotechnology in 1959 during an American Physical Society meeting at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), which was long before the term "nanotechnology" was used. Inspired by this talk, many researchers from various disciplines started exploring the possibility of manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale, which has evolved a new interdisciplinary research area called "Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering". This new visionary field covers a wide range of projects from atomic-level manipulations to micro-scale device fabrications, and it's main goal is to control the structure and properties of materials in an extremely small scale (nanometer). The idea behind this approach is that the properties of materials can exhibit dramatic changes when dimensions get close to atomic levels and exceptional properties can be obtained, which otherwise would be impossible. The field of Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering investigates different classes of materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers, electronic materials and biomaterials with an emphasis on elucidating structure-process-property relationships. Over the past two decades, nano-structured materials and devices impact all fields of science and engineering, including chemistry, physics, molecular biology, microelectronics, biomedical engineering, and civil engineering. The advancements realized in these fields has led to advanced materials and technologies such as smaller, faster computer chips, smart phones, new display technologies, smart nanocomposite materials, biosensors, and drug delivery systems. Today, many researchers from various disciplines are exploring a wide variety of ways to deliberately make nanostructured materials to take advantage of their enhanced properties. The future of enhancing our way of life has strong bonds with improvements in materials science and nanotechnology. ABDULLAH GÜL UNIVERSITY ADVANCED MATERIALS AND NANOTECHNOLOGY MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM STRUCTURE The purpose of our graduate program is to inform multidisciplinary research perspective in materials science and nanotechnology field and to educate tomorrow’s problem-solvers in light of increased competitiveness and new global challenges. Our approach in our graduate level training is to motivate students to conduct ground breaking research in materials science and nanotechnology. Our program offering M.S. degree is conducted in English. In order to graduate, candidates are required to accomplish at least 7 courses with 21 credits and a seminar course. Each candidate for the M.S. degree must submit a thesis based on original research and/or application in related fields. The graduate program consisting of courses and a M.S. thesis can be completed by the end of two years. Upon this background, students have the opportunity to specialize in the following three interdisciplinary focus areas: Sustainability: Producing goods and services using processes that are non-polluting, conserving of energy and natural resources, economically viable, and safe and healthful for workers, communities, and consumers. Disaster Management: Analyzing, modeling, and providing scientific decision support in the management of natural and human-induced disasters (e.g., earthquakes, landslides, and terrorism) to contribute towards improving the resilience of governments, organizations, and companies. Healthcare Systems: Improving efficiency, productivity, and patient access in healthcare systems by developing tools, methodologies, and protocols that allow for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of healthcare with improved outcomes. ADMISSIONS B. Sc. degree from a field with one year of college-level mathematics (calculus and probability/statistics), e.g., industrial engineering, operations research, operations management, statistics, computer science/engineering, and civil engineering.
