School Description

Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) is a private university located in southern Taiwan. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, CJCU is committed to developing the God-given gifts and abilities of each student within a culture of love, respect, and service. The university was founded in 1992 but is the outgrowth of a vision that began more than one hundred years earlier with the founding of Chang Jung Senior High School, Taiwan’s first western-style high school, in 1885.

CJCU is a community of approximately 11,000 students and 350 faculty members who are eager to extend the warmth and hospitality of southern Taiwan to the rest of the world. The University places high value on its relationships with partner schools, research agencies, churches, and other organizations around the world. As a Christian university, we seek to live out a gospel message that is for all peoples. As we press toward the goal of greater internationalization, we remain committed to the beauty and diversity of local culture.

Our purpose is to cultivate scholars of the highest caliber who will be guided by the ideals of “devotion, diligence, honor, and service” to cherish our nation, contribute to society, and serve humanity.

Educational Philosophy:

Chang Jung Christian University seeks to carry on the historical traditions and rich cultural heritage of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. As it pursues its goal of sustainable, holistic education, CJCU strives to continue the devotion to God, the love of wisdom, and the commitment to education shown by the early Presbyterian missionaries. An application fee of US$45 (or NT$1,500) One copy of English language proficiency Graduate School of Business and Operations Management The Graduate School of Business and Operations Management (GSBOM) was established in 1997, initially with the purpose of recruiting Master’s Program students (including general and work placement students). It was the first Master’s Program in the university, and was administered by the College of Management. In 1999, in response to the Ministry of Education’s policy to support the nation’s growth and future development needs, an additional work placement Master’s Course was added and administered by the doctoral program, with the aim of providing high-level training to managing directors in the business community. CJCU thus became the first private university in southern Taiwan to establish a doctoral program, gaining expertise in academic research into management issues. In 2006, the work placement Master’s Class was renamed the “Executive MBA Class” (EMBA), a change approved by the Ministry of Education. And since 2007, the EMBA has been administered by the College of Management, specializing in high-level management personnel training and academic research. Through hard work and strong management skills, the institute’s directors have implemented a system which has achieved a high level of expertise in such areas as teaching and student affairs, academic research, and paper presentations. As the only doctoral program in the CJCU, a unique atmosphere has formed in the GSBOM, where the research culture is strong, organized,and cohesive, and the experiences of graduate students are well respected. The institute also strives to maintain a strong and stable learning environment for Master’s and Doctoral programs’ students, making the overall academic experience a harmonious one. Scale At present, the GSBOM has 4 Master’s Program classes, with a total of 54 registered students, and has 7 Doctoral Program classes, with a total of 34 registered students. The total number of students of the GSBOM is 88. Faculty The GSBOM is committed to providing a complete teaching environment which cultivates business management and research professionals who have professional knowledge and abilities, creative thinking skills, good characters, and an international perspective. The current teaching team includes nine full-time teachers (four professors and three associate professors), seven part-time teacher, and more than ten supporting teachers from different departments, with the entire faculty holding doctorate degrees. These individuals represent a board range of academic and professional skills. Facilities We currently provide a business management automation technology laboratory, two study rooms for MBA program students, a study room and a seminar room for PhD program students, and two large professional ladder classrooms for different uses in research and teaching. Development We constantly strive for excellence in the fields of teaching and research and to refine our methods based on the results that are achieved. The focus of development includes the following four areas: (1) we offer rewards for students to actively participate in international academic seminars to achieve the GSBOM’s educational aims; (2) we strengthen research methodology courses with lectures and discussions, in order to enhance the quality of students’ research; (3) we seek the support of other schools and institutions, and work to acquire resources from the government and others in order to organize national and international academic activities; (4) we continue to improve and promote the GSBOM’s development goals and our overall research capabilities and academic reputation, in order to attract the best students to apply to our institution. Opportunities Employment options: graduates of the GSBOM can be employed in government agencies through national examinations, or in business management-related departments and in the Southern Taiwan Science Park, as management, teaching, and research staff. Introduction Theological education at Chang Jung Christian University, Taiwan is aimed at training committed leaders who are pursuing a wide range of vocations including parish ministry, hospital chaplaincy, ecumenical movements, voluntary organizations, social work, the teaching profession, and more. School of Theology of CJCU is the first school of its kind within the government accredited Educational system of Taiwan. The vision of the founding members of the University to create an academic space for the study of religion and faith find embodiment is setting up the School of Theology in 2008. School of Theology since its inception has welcomed a wide variety of scholars with diverse background and discipline from around the world to help our students became capable of addressing the needs of the global church. Student community demonstrates the strength in gender, ethnic, and national diversity. Being an integral part of the university, our students are encouraged to take courses in other departments and hence cultivate an interdisciplinary method in their academic formation. School of Theology students involve in all facets of the University’s vibrant student life and through that they offer a Christian presence in the University. School of Theology offers both bachelor and graduate degree programs. School of Theology is making plans to offer a globally competent Ph.D program in collaboration with the leading centers of theological learning in the world. Master of Theology The Master of Theology degree programme at School of Theology, Chang Jung Christian University is a research degree for those who seek to undertake scholarly research and reflection for various different ministries of the Church. The research degree is designed to expand and deepen theological knowledge of the students and to equip them with independent research skills for more advanced research degrees. The medium of instruction is English, and will address the demand for well-informed leaders of the Christian Churches around the globe. An international faculty with diverse theological and cultural background will guide students to comprehend the complex nature of the global community and the challenges for doing theology contextually. Structure: M.Th degree involves two years of academic study including the writing of a Master’s thesis. The curriculum has a twofold focus. First, seminar courses for 30 credit hours, which includes 12 hours of required courses common for students belonging to various disciplines of theological knowledge. The required courses will offer a general orientation towards the interdisciplinary academic investigation of the Christian faith tradition in a multi-cultural and multi-religious social context. Second, the students will be given the opportunity to specialize and write a Master's thesis in one of the four research disciplines: biblical studies, systematic theology, contextual theologies, and theological ethics. Admission requirements: Eligible candidates will already hold a 4-year (or equivalent) university degree plus the Master of Divinity (or equivalent) degree. Both prerequisite degrees must be from schools recognized by regional accrediting agencies. Proficiency in English language. Candidates whose secondary and higher education was conducted in English may apply for exemption from the examination requirement. Degree requirements: Completion of seminar classes for a minimum total of 30 credit hours, of which 12 are required courses. Successful completion of a comprehensive examination at the completion of the course work. Writing a research thesis of around 30,000 to 40,000 words on a topic approved by the graduate studies committee. The thesis will be written under the supervision of a faculty-appointed supervisor. The thesis should be submitted within 5 years after enrollment in the degree program. Application procedure: An application form can be obtained from the International Office of Chang Jung Christian University. Applications must be supported with the following documents. A recent curriculum vitae; Official Transcripts of marks (sent directly from the registrar of the schools attended) and photocopies of diplomas; A copy of scholarly articles or papers OR an essay of at least 400 words detailing the applicant’s perspective on theology and Christian ministry.
