The Master's Programme in Bioentrepreneurship is tailored for students with a background in biomedicine, pharmaceutics, biotechnology, healthcare or medicine with courses addressing the central themes of how to manage and develop life science companies. Do you envision yourself working in the life science industry in the future? As a graduate from the Master's Programme in Bioentrepreneurship (MBE) you will have a solid foundation for working with the development and management of projects and companies in the life science field. A key concept within this programme is the application of knowledge in the real world. We use real cases to learn from and many of the lecturers are experienced business leaders who share their knowledge and act as inspiration. The programme is interdisciplinary with regards to the background of both the students as well as teachers and the pedagogical methods that are used in the programme. Some of the courses in the programme are offered together with our partner institutions in Stockholm. The business administration courses are offered by the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the elective courses by Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship. The programme includes two internships at companies, authorities or other relevant organisations, in Sweden or abroad, where you apply what you have learnt to create a mutually beneficial experience for you and the hosting company. The degree project is also commonly performed in a company setting. These experiences give you valuable knowledge and insights as well as networks that will provide you with a head start for your future career. Specific entry requirements A bachelor's degree or a professional degree equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits in health care, biomedicine, biology, cellular and molecular biology, pharmaceutics, chemistry, medicine or biotechnology. Proficiency in the English language should be documented by an internationally recognized test such as TOEFL: internet based (iBT) with a total score of at least 90 and minimum score of 20 on written test, paper based (PBT) with a total score of at least 575, and minimum score of 4.5 on written test, or IELTS (academic) with an overall mark of at least 6.5 and no band less than 5.5; or other documentation that according to regulations certifies the equivalence of English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school. Selection The selection is based on an overall assessment of the applicant's qualifications such as previous education, relevant work and/or research experience and statement of intent. The programme is a unique collaboration between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University, in the environment of Science for Life Laboratory, Stockholm. The students will receive a comprehensive education in life science emphasising cutting-edge methods in bioinformatic analysis of big data, combined with state-of-the-art techniques used in modern "high throughput" molecular biology and how to translate biological findings into diagnostic tools and novel treatments. Programme presentation This two-year Master’s programme is delivered by a team of teachers who are internationally recognised researchers in their respective disciplines to ensure a relevant curriculum at the research forefront. The programme consists of courses aiming to give a solid education in a combination of molecular biology, biotechnology and medicine with a focus on high-throughput biology and analysis of big data for translation of biological findings from lab bench to patient bedside. The education also aims to develop skills and abilities essential to the professional career –including oral and written presentation, team working skills, and how to make ethical and societal considerations about life science related issues, all of which important for the ability to lead projects in academy and industry. The Master's Programme in Toxicology gives students an in-depth knowledge of the broad and interdisciplinary toxicological field. The programme prepares students for either a research or professional career and provides a solid platform for doctoral studies in toxicology or work in risk/safety assessment-related areas in the public sector or industry. Programme presentation The Master's Programme in Toxicology was one of the first toxicology programmes in the world. The programme is unique in its two-year cohesive focus on toxicology and human health. The programme utilises its close connection to high-quality research and risk assessment work at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) - the main centre for education and training in toxicology and health risk assessment in Sweden, and collaborates with pharmaceutical and chemical industries, national authorities (for example the Swedish Chemicals Agency and the Swedish National Food Administration), Swetox and the Swedish Poison Information Centre, as well as with scientists at other departments both within and outside KI. The programme includes principles in toxicology, toxicokinetics, target organ toxicity, biochemical and molecular toxicological methods, mechanisms of toxicity and mode of action, toxicity testing, laboratory animal science, alternative methods to animal testing, histopathology, statistics, epidemiology, and health risk assessment. This first part of the programme provides students with a general, advanced toxicological grounding, upon which they then base a personal line of inquiry to probe more deeply into experimental research or risk/safety assessment by taking elective and/or project courses.
