Welcome to the School of Business, Economics and Law!

Sweden and the Swedish business world have had a great deal of international success over the past 100 years. A couple of important factors of success include understanding and respect for other cultures and human context, which results in the realization that there are no general solutions to local problems. A specific type of leadership and a unique approach to both commercial enterprise and taking responsibility have been developed, both of which have garnered international respect. Research at the School of Business, Economics and Law helps clarify this leadership and approach to taking responsibility, and makes conveyance to students, our leaders of tomorrow, possible.

University Of Gothenburg School Of Business, Economics And Law

Our roots are in local business, which has an international focus and recognizes the importance of high-level research and education - just as was the case when the School was founded. This creates unique cooperation and lays the groundwork for future competitiveness in Sweden. Our business cooperation is also reflected in the School's international work, which is developed in intimate dialogue with our partners. As we form strategic partnerships with leading universities in China and India, we make sure we do so in areas where our partner companies are increasing their presence.

University Of Gothenburg School Of Business, Economics And Law

The School of Business, Economics and Law has set lofty goals. We aim to educate internationally attractive students who have adopted a responsible attitude towards societal development and to perform top-quality research that helps identify solutions to complex global problems. The prerequisites already exist; some examples are breadth of disciplines, motivated and committed researchers, close cooperation and constant dialogue with the business and public sectors, ambitious and creative students and an international focus that has existed for 85 years.

Master of Science in Innovation and Industrial Management

Campus Full time 2 years August 2017 Sweden Gothenburg

The IIM programme focuses upon management within the frameworks of short-term and long-term objectives and investments in relation to industrial dynamics and innovation. [+]

Language of instruction: English “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change” Charles Darwin had it right in his famous statement. In business terms, if organizations do not change what they offer and the ways in which they create and deliver their products and services, then those organizations may not be around for too long. The Innovation and Industrial Management MSc programme provides education and practices on how and why to analyze problems and to design solutions, for organizations which are operating in changing markets with evolving technologies and industries. A main rationale for our focus has to do with the international nature of competition. Modern companies face complex industrial and financial challenges of doing business domestically as well as internationally. Companies face particular demands in adapting to these technological, financial, consumer and other changes, in ways which positively affect their future profitability and competitiveness. Global competition requires organizations to develop internal and external analysis of industrial processes and market conditions with particular emphasis on innovation, industrial dynamics and investments. About the programme The Innovation and Industrial Management (IIM) MSc programme is concerned with analyzing problems and designing solutions for organizations operating in changing markets and business models, with evolving technologies and organizations. The overall objective is to provide theories, methods and tools to students as potential managers in organizations operating under uncertainty in complex and rapidly changing environments. The courses, projects, and thesis work within this MSc programme therefore focus upon management within the frameworks of short-term and long-term investment in relation to industrial dynamics and innovation. The rationale for combining these frameworks is that organizations make trade-offs between ‘efficiency’ and ‘innovation’. The modern manager must learn to utilize and mobilize existing resources for current activities, at the same time as s/he must develop existing and new resources to develop new businesses, services, and the like, through internal and external processes. Special emphasis is put on understanding and providing concepts, principles and procedures that are central for analyzing problems and designing solutions. Language of instruction: English The International Business and Trade Programme takes its point of departure in present day managerial decision making. Continuous globalization processes of domestic economies have led to a situation where firms must face and comprehend the impact from global production and trade networks. Consequently, there is a growing need for firms and managers to respond to the increased possibilities as well as complexities of the greater and more relaxed movement of capital, people, services, products and knowledge as they are subject to and must understand stakeholders at the national and supranational levels. About the programme The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach, synthesizing methods of international business environment analysis with theories concerning internationalization and strategic management of multinational corporations. This also includes an understanding of the legal framework affecting international trade and foreign direct investment. It has its foundation in both international business studies as well as economic geography, making the program unique in the area of international management. The International Business and Trade programme gives you a distinctive combination of training and knowledge about the functioning of multinational companies in the global economy. This is viewed from a business perspective and supported by a profound legal understanding concerning international trade. During the programme, deep insights are accumulated concerning different industries and countries through courses that enhance the individual analysis capability and give valuable skills and understanding concerning project team work. Furthermore, the programme provides opportunities for field work in an international environment and studies at designated universities abroad. The teaching is carried out with a strong emphasis on real world examples and case studies from global manufacturing and service companies that are found in both Western and emerging market contexts. Many of the case studies and project assignments are implemented in close cooperation with established multinational corporations as well as internationalizing small and medium sized firms. The programme is especially designed for students who plan a future career in international companies, e.g., in marketing, purchasing, exports and strategic management. The programme is also aimed at students who wish to specialize in trade policy and/or trade promotion in international organizations, or national government institutions. About the programme The Entrepreneurship programme aims to provide students with scientific and practical knowledge about innovation and entrepreneurship as well as with the skills to turn such knowledge into practice. The learning objectives are therefore designed to help the student acquire perspectives, skills and experiences necessary to take on an entrepreneurial role in future positions and activities. The Entrepreneurship programme provides knowledge and skills relevant to developing new businesses as well as renewing existing businesses through entrepreneurship. This involves integrating knowledge about the interplay between services, design, and different types of knowledge with processes of entrepreneurship, business development and commercialization. The programme provides an individual learning process so that each student can develop their analytical and reflective capabilities, in relation to entrepreneurial processes. During year 2, the teams also are engaged in developing a new business or project. Application periods: Non EU/EEA Citizen: 15th January EU/EEA Citizen: 15th April View MSc [-]
