The UPCT was established in the year of 1998.

Even though the science of engineering and economics have such a long tradition in Cartagena, the UPCT is the youngest University throughout Spain.

It can be said that, the combination of tradition and modernity gives us a vibrant, adventurous and innovative character. Hundreds of students from all over Europe and Latin America have already been registered at our University. We greatly welcome applications from students from all over the world and we highly appreciate the different life experience and diversity they bring to Cartagena.

Consequently, it is not surprising that many students across the world have already been registered for one of our master programs or have already applied for an admission to do a doctorate with us. We would like to continue to set a high value to an international atmosphere. Our international commitment was encouraged by the corporation with the University of Murcia, in the year of 2010.

How do I register at the UPCT and what are the requirements?

Application Requirements for an Undergraduate Study Program

Before registering for an undergraduate study program (bachelor´s degree), you have to translate and to validate your secondary school leaving certificate. This procedure is necessary to prove that your certificate is equivalent to the Spanish “Bachillerato”. The “Ministerio de Educación Español”, a Spanish education agency, is responsible to confirm your high school diploma.

The University Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), a distance learning University, will prepare an admission test for international students. Students from the European Union or from countries that have an agreement with our University, have direct access to study here and are not obligated to take the test. Furthermore, as most classes are conducted in Spanish, you should have sufficient knowledge of the Spanish language.

Application Requirements for a Graduate Study Program

As a rule, if you are interested in applying for a Master´s degree program, you must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Unless your degree is not from the European higher education area, you can obtain the certification of your degree on the website of the UPCT, when registering for one of our programs

The following documents are necessary to register at our university:

  • A set of an official academic credential or transcript that indicates the following:
  • Dates on which your studies were undertaken

  • Grades you have earned in each subject

It could be possible that you have to submit additional documentation to support your application.

At last, your documents have to be:

  • Officially issued by the responsible authorities.
  • Submitted legalized.

This Master program's main objective is to train researchers in the field of agricultural and food development. All current indicators show that an increase in the critical mass of researchers in this area in the EU is necessary; although agriculture, from the production stage to processing and manufacturing has a very broad field in which you can research and innovation, there are certain horizontal working tools that allow train students with excellent technical capabilities and application to areas as varied as the environment, animal and plant genetics and improvement, food processing or pest control. These facts have led us to formulate a Master's program has four distinct modules, one of methodological courses and three fundamental courses. [+]

The Master program of Advanced Techniques in Research and Agricultural Development and Food intends to start university students in research in this field. The program is based, on the one hand, the research conducted at the School of Agricultural Engineering and secondly, in the technological development of the Spanish agriculture and food sector. JUSTIFICATION The official Master in Advanced Techniques in Research and Agricultural Development and Food (TAIDA) is a response to the demands of society in knowledge and training in emerging technologies that improve and optimize production and food quality at all stages of development and marketing through efficient use of resources while minimizing environmental impact. The main areas of specialization are TAIDA food technology, food biotechnology, crop production and soil management and recovery. Currently, the food industry has high demand for technicians and researchers specialized in production research and industry remains an important source of employment for their specialization. To train professionals who want to increase their expertise and learn about the latest developments in the various emerging productive technologies and eco-innovative. To train recent graduates who want to enter these new technologies to further deepen them dedicated to research and development (R & D) within innovative companies, or eventually advance to the completion of a doctoral thesis in the program PhD in TAIDA currently offer in the UPCT in accordance with this master. Master in Mobile Technologies and Smart Cities (MMTSC)

MMTSC is a Master Degree that allows students acquiring the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to engage the technological challenges associated to Mobile Technologies for Smart Cities. The MMTSC includes courses on Broadband Wireless Standards and Technologies, Smart Cities Technologies & Data Management, Big & Open DATA, IoT (Internet of Things), Urban Informatics, Adaptive Cities, Intelligent Transport, Data Security, Entrepreneurship in high-risk fast-changing technology areas, mobile app development, operation and management of new digital networks, novel sensors, actuators and gadgets… and much more. The students will explore the role of technology and data in cities, and they will learn how to participate in the creation of smart cities. [+]

The telecommunications engineering profession is characterised by its ability to adapt to this increasingly technological and dynamic society. Today, telecommunications engineering is present not only in the Information and Communication Technologies sector, but also in many other sectors such as industrial, banking, motor, agricultural, health, consultancy, etc., which means a highly promising future for its professionals. Graduates who have studied at the ETSIT of the UPCT (Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena) are adequately prepared to work in public or private, large or small service contract companies in the areas of design, installation, maintenance and operation of networks and cable and fibre optic communication systems (television, Internet, etc.) or wireless (mobile communications, WiFi, WiMAX, TDT, sensor networks, etc.). They also carry out an important function in service provision companies (mobile and cable operators) and companies dedicated to the manufacture and supply of equipment such as antennae, mobiles, digital television or radio, satellites, etc. Moreover, these engineers have a wide range of opportunity in Public Administration technical bodies and management consultancies, in entrepreneurship, R&D&I and in the independent practice of the profession. In just 10 years, 8 research groups have carried out 76 research projects, with funding of over 5.3 million euros; undertaken more than 50 R&D contracts worth over 1.5 million euros; published hundreds of articles and papers on national and international conferences; and have defended more than 40 Doctoral Theses in the field of ITCs with significant social impact. The ETSIT headquarters are located in the restored 18th-century Antigones Building, which has a total surface area of 1,800 m2 dedicated exclusively to teaching classrooms, with a capacity for 1,305 students. Classroom equipment includes interactive digital blackboards, traditional blackboards, overhead projectors, a public address system (wireless microphones and speakers), multimedia desks, and Internet access. In addition to these, the School and its departments provide teachers with other audiovisual resources such as tablet PCs, slide projectors, a television/video, laptops, and video projectors. Our facilities boast 1,500 m2 of teaching laboratories fitted out with state-of-the-art equipment, and 300 m2 dedicated to computer rooms. In addition to the teaching laboratories, 500 m2 of basement space is dedicated to R&D&I laboratories. The ETSIT currently has over 700 students distributed among the various degree courses. The percentage of male and female students is 80% and 20% respectively. Over its 10 years of existence, more than 600 students have graduated (321 in Telecommunications Engineering and 287 in Technical Telecommunications Engineering, specialising in Telematics). According to the PESIT VI report (Socio-Professional Studies on Telecommunications Engineers) of the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers, 100% of current telecommunications engineers and technical telecommunications engineers were employed within a year of completing their studies. There are over 80 teachers in 10 different departments working at the ETSIT. Of these, 80% are Doctors. The employment status of available teaching staff reflects this situation, where 50% of the teaching and research staff are career civil servants, 19.5% have an indefinite employment contract, and 30.5% have a teaching or administrative contract. Some 65% of teaching staff have more than 10 years´ teaching experience and over 70% have at least 6 years´ recognised research work. Along with teaching, research is one of the cornerstones of the University. The majority of ETSIT teachers carry out intense research activity. These teachers form part of different Research Groups related to telematics engineering, electromagnetism applied to telecommunications, signal processing, mobile communications, radio communications and astrophysics. Entry Requirements and Fee Entry Requirements Students interested in attending the Master in Mobile Technologies and Smart Cities should have a Bachelor degree with knowledge on some of the following topics: telecommunications, electrical engineering or computer sciences. Pre-selected applicants are required to pass a preliminary test. Fees for International Students Fees for international Students are €14.000,00. Eligible students may be entitled to a €2.000,00 scholarship.
