ESDi - Design School

Introduction

Since 1989 ESDi Higher School of Design, centre attached to Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), is engaged to people who dare to redesign the world, and design and build its future. Its mission is to transmit art and design knowledge by a creative process governed by analysis, effort and talent.

In 1992, ESDi becomes the first centre in Spanish State in teaching Design university studies, awarding the own Degree of Universitat Ramon Llull: “Official Undergraduate Degree in Design”. Following the same line, in 2000 the academic fusion with Escola d’Arts i Tècniques de la Moda (EATM) of Barcelona is signed, strengthening in this way both textile and fashion speciality and the rest of the taught studies.

Since the academic year 2008-2009, ESDi teaches Official Undergraduate Degree in Design as a centre attached to Universitat Ramon Llull, following the guidelines settled by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). This is a very important fact that will enable the designer, once graduated, to gain admittance to master’s degree or national and international world of work under the same conditions of the rest of Official Degrees.

In this way, ESDi-URL has become the first Spanish university in offering Official Undergraduate Degree in Design in all its disciplines: Graphic, Product, Interior, Fashion, Audiovisual and Design Management (Multidisciplinary Integration). Offering a total of 140 seats. Also the centre has been pioneer in teaching design third year studies, specifically teaching an Official Master’s Degree which opens the access doors to Design doctorate.

ESDi structures its educational activity in different Educational Units and Knowledge Development (UDDC) and in Experimentation and Application Units (UEA). The centre combines teaching, knowledge transfer and research diffusion. Since 2012 the centre has a research group approved by Universitat Ramon Llull (URL): TADD, Theory, Analysis and Development of Design.

Advice of Styling, Image and Communication Master is created to respond the need of the figure of the image consultant and fashion designer which is becoming more and more required, as a strategic instrument to achieve an optimal management of image. Both personal and institutional image represents an essential tool in corporate innovation, development and positioning. It becomes an essential and decisive resource in the achievement of our personal and professional objectives. The success of a brand is linked with image, and consultants and fashion designers are in charge of defining the personality of that brand with up-to-date and different visual proposals. Fashion undergoes constant changes. To know trends and expect to them is the key to achieve an attractive product or image for a more and more demanding and informed consumer. These studies are part of Arts and Humanities branch of knowledge. OBJECTIVES OF THE MASTER IN ADVICE OF STYLING, IMAGE AND COMMUNICATION Master’s degree in Advice of Styling, Image and Communication main objectives are the following: - Interdisciplinary study of different areas focused on image consultancy, fashion and fashion designing, communication, events organization, social trends analysis and global understanding of fashion in world economic politics context, as well as cultural displays, in order to provide all that knowledge both theoretical and practical necessary to master techniques and codes that reinforce image. - To train professionals in the international, specific and dynamic context of fashion, who contribute a contemporary and multidisciplinary view, in fashion designing, personal and corporate image consultancy, fashion communication and protocol and events organization and production fields. - To develop necessary managing and analytical skills of master’s degree participants to carry out multidisciplinary projects in a global environment, in which the use of new technologies, creativity and innovation, as well as social and environmental responsibility are essential. - Provide tools which will enable the student to identify and anticipate changes in lifestyles, consumers’ preferences and current and emerging trends, through creative experimentation and research. - To foster 2.0 communication and/or social networks as a platform of new entrepreneurship proposing a new view of teams management and collaborative network politics development. The Master in Digital Art Curator caters to both professional and academic training in curating exhibitions, art theory and design, criticism or cultural management, with the particularity of being specialized in the creation and use of new technologies. The commissioner in digital art can be considered one of the most successful activities at the same time, one of the most innovative, for their particular purpose to act in the present context. His role is shared by a number of cultural practices related to new technologies, including: - The organization of artistic, recreational, educational or disseminating activities. - The development of multimedia presentations and forms of exposure at conferences, lectures, etc.. - The development of original projects of confluence of art and new media. - Organizing events, festivals, shows, etc. - The new media critics. - Theoretical research on latest trends in art and design. These studies are part of Arts and Humanities branch of knowledge. This master offers 20 places. OBJECTIVES Master’s degree main objectives are the following: - To train in el exhibitions commission and cultural events field, cultural management, art theory and criticism, especially in creation areas using new media (electronic or media art, multimedia creation, Internet, etc.). - To provide very latest knowledge about conceptual, formal, technical and specialized instruments for creation, planning, management, design and productions development, research, critical thought formation and aesthetic sensibility for the most contemporary trends in art. - To contribute to the access to contemporary art circuit aimed at new media, through knowledge of its most important institutions and circulation spaces, emphasizing regular events that constitute nowadays the meeting and interaction points of public, artists and theorist interested in the confluence of arts and new technologies. - To instruct in the techniques and methodologies to develop complex projects with professional solutions, strengthening inter-human relationships and group work. - For students who want to keep on studying a PhD, to provide the necessary research methodology competences in humanities, specifying art and design. ESDi Higher School of Design, in collaboration with MANGO multinational, offers the master's degree in Fashion Industry Management and Design specialised in Fashion and Design Industry Management, a study focused on specific features of fashion sector, which means a multidisciplinary approach to modern enterprise reality in which creation, marketing and communication, technology and innovation and, especially, management are joined. With a strong professionalizing nature, this master's degree gives to the participants the opportunity to access environment knowledge by the hand of professionals and managers of renowned enterprises.
