We've been in the business of learning for over 25 years
Midrand Graduate Institute (MGI) was established in 1989 as a private university-level, degree-conferring institution – one of the first of its kind in Southern Africa. We offer 20 undergraduate, three honours and one master’s degree within six faculties. All courses are externally examined and moderated by well-qualified academics, public higher institutions, and industry practitioners.
All our degrees are registered and accredited
MGI is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training, under the Higher Education Act No. 101 of 1997, as a private higher education institution (Registration Certificate No. 2001/HE07/008). All our programmes are accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE’s) Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) and registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
We’re backed by the world’s leading learning company
In 2013, Pearson Education, the world’s leading learning company, acquired a 100% stake in MGI, creating an opportunity for MGI to broaden its range of courses and degrees.
We cultivate future leaders
MGI is known for producing graduates who are competitive, skilled and in demand in the working environment.
We strive for excellence in everything we do
Our vision is to be the leading private higher education provider in Southern Africa, recognised both locally and internationally for academic excellence, career-focused programmes, a dynamic hands-on approach to teaching and learning, and world-class service delivery on multiple campuses.
We support technology-enhanced learning (TEL)
Every student who enrolls for a 1st year MGI degree or Pre-degree Foundation programme receives a tablet PC, including all course material and electronic textbooks, as part of their course fee. The benefits of TEL include: managing and organising learning easily, access to electronic textbooks (ebooks), being able to learn anywhere, anytime.
We stay relevant in an ever-changing world
We respond to changing industry and student needs. Our courses are relevant for local circumstances, while simultaneously providing students with the necessary skills and competencies to enable them to be competitive in the international arena.
We have established local and international partnerships
MGI has established agreements and partnerships with local and international higher education institutions rooted in a shared commitment to providing relevant education of high quality, adding strength and diversity to MGI's programmes, and broadening the learning opportunities for its students. These partnerships include:
- North-West University (SA)
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology (SA)
- Monash SA
- UNISA (SA)
- Radford University College (Ghana)
