Introduction

The Poznań University of Life Sciences takes a leading position in rankings of universities of life sciences and biological sciences in Poland. At present we have over 12 000 students, and 1500 employees. Our eight Faculties offer a wide scope of education within 22 fields of study and over 30 specialisations, including Biology, Biotechnology, Landscape Architecture, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Wood technology, Environmental Protection, Animal Science, Food Technology, etc.

We provide education within a 3-level system: I) studies for the degree of Engineer or undergraduate (bachelor) studies, II) graduate studies ending with a Master's degree, and III) doctoral studies (PhD). All our faculties have an extensive offer of postgraduate studies.

Our University's proposal includes participation in the faculty and structures of the Students' Government, as well as youth organisations, work in scientific associations and promotion of personal development through realisation of cultural, tourism and sports interests in different groups and teams.

MSc Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Land Reclamation and Environmental Engineering Award: Master of Science This course is suitable for students interested in both technical problems and life sciences. This is a practice-related higher education course learning how to integrate environmental knowledge and technical measures to reduce the negative impact of human activity on environment. The program focuses on rural areas, but also includes a wide range of problems in industrial and urban landscape. Course overview The Environmental Engineering and Protection studies delivers a comprehensive training in rational management of natural resources but also in forecasting, assessing, preventing and restoring the effects of human impact on the environment. Studies are interdisciplinary, related to ecological and environmental principles integrated with engineering solutions and involving of most recent and advanced technologies. A graduate has knowledge how reduce the negative impact of human activity using biological and technical measures. The program of this course focuses particularly on the rural environment, but also includes a wide range of problems in industrial and urban landscape. A graduate with a master’s degree in the field of Economics, specialisation in Agribusiness, has wide knowledge of economics, marketing, socioeconomic policy, agri-food policy and economic law. Their education guarantees the necessary qualifications to make designs, provide advisory services and make rational decisions related with the acquisition and use of resources by business entities and other institutions and to run a business, especially in food economics.

How to apply for studies

The course, which will start in October 2013, will comprise 900 hours of lectures, classes and  seminars.

MSc in Animal Science at the Faculty of Animal Breeding and Biology Award: Master of Science Master degree in the field of animal science provide graduates with in-depth knowledge in animal breeding and modern animal production technologies, including organization of production processes and farm management. The main focus is on the maintenance of animal welfare and optimal animal productivity, while limiting the negative environmental impact. This course is dedicated to students who would like to gain practical skills and professional competence required to work within the international animal husbandry and production. Course overview The curriculum is based on the experiences gained by the European universities of high renown in the area of agricultural sciences. A significant element is also connected with close academic cooperation with national economic partners, e.g. companies operating in the sector of animal breeding and food production. The course is based on the module system of classes and lectures improving intensity and efficiency of the teaching/learning process. It is focused on providing students with skills required on the labor market through practical classes ( student projects, laboratory and field classes) as well as traineeships. We invite students who are eager to gain knowledge about biostatistics, elements of genetic engineering, genetics of quantitative traits, genomic selection, regulation of alimentary tract functions, technology of food mix production, reproduction biotechnologies, animal disease prevention, principles of organic animal management and the protection of gene resources. MSc in Forestry

 

The MSc programme in Forestry is geared for students who have completed their undergraduate studies in Forestry and have obtained the degree of BSc in Forestry or in related sciences.

The programme lasts for three semesters (18 months) and starts in October. After completing the courses, presenting the master’s theses and passing the final examinations the student receives the degree of M.Sc. in Forestry. During their studies, students are offered lectures, practicals, labs and field practicals/trips. Apart from obligatory courses students may select from a number of electives. Semester 1 consists of 17 obligatory courses. Semester 2 consists of 11 obligatory courses and 7 electives. Semester 3 has got a slightly different character, as it offers courses and seminars which should help students complete their master’s theses.  WHAT WILL YOU GET?

Theoretical knowledge and practical skills for:

breeding selected horticultural crops, seed production and processing of vegetables and flowers, seed biology, routine and advanced methods of seed quality tests  use of seeds in other areas of Horticulture, seed marketing and company management.

 ABOUT THE COURSE The course lasts 3 semesters (1.5 year) and costs 3600 Euro. The course comprises 830 hours of lectures, classes, seminars, field trips and seed company visits. The studies, besides intellectual adventure, give you an excellent chance to develop your career and visit Europe. Carried out since 1995 and resulted in almost 80 graduates, of which 6 had continued their careers in PhD studies, they provide you with good bases for further promotion in your professional life. The course includes selecting a MSc research project following the student’s individual interests. It is carried out at various departments of our University, Institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences (for Plant Genetics and Dendrology), Department of Botany of the University of Adam Mickiewicz and other research units. Some MSc research projects are also carried out in the Polish plant breeding and seed production seed companies. The course’s curriculum and individual syllabi have been regularly updated according to suggestion from the seed industry.
