In line with market needs, Department of Economics is offering MPhil Applied Economics. This programs is designed to develop economic reasoning and analytical skills among students through the provision of advanced knowledge in the field of economics. [+]

Students can apply for either the morning program or the evening program. The contents of both programs is identical. The department will admit students in the MPhil Applied Economics morning program each year in Fall semester (July & August admission time) and in MPhil Applied Economics evening program each year in Spring semester (November & December admission time). In line with market needs, Department of Economics is offering MPhil Applied Economics. This programs is designed to develop economic reasoning and analytical skills among students through the provision of advanced knowledge in the field of economics. As a graduate of MPhil Applied Economics, you will have: advanced understanding about microeconomics, macroeconomics and applied econometrics refined quantitative and applied research skills to analyze real world economic problems the abilities to pursue doctoral program. job opportunities in academic institutions, development agencies, financial and banking sector, Government departments, industries, NGOs, research organizations, etc. MPhil Applied Economics is a two year program following the completion of 16 years of education i.e. BS (Hons) or conventional MA/MSc Economics. This program consists of two semesters (27 credit hours) of coursework and a research thesis (12 credit hours). After the completion of coursework in two semesters, students will focus their efforts on the MPhil thesis under the supervision of a supervisor. With an MPhil in Applied Economics, you will have exposure about those courses and skills which are especially helpful to pursue doctoral program or teaching/research professions. The Biological Sciences Department is located in the new Armacost Science Building which has six dedicated research and six teaching laboratories as well as state-of the art equipment such as: PCR-thermal cycler, real-time PCR, microcentrifuges, electroporator, refrigerated table top centrifuge, ultra low freezer, nanodrop spectrophotometer, orbital shaker, infrared gas analyzer (IRGA), gas chromatogram, CO2 incubator, gel electrophoresis system, documentation system, biosafety cabinets etc. We have a well-qualified and experienced faculty, who are involved in various research programs in which both graduate and undergraduate students are involved. FC College started the MPhil Chemistry program in 2009 to produce highly educated and skilled chemists. This is a critical requirement for Pakistan which needs to upgrade the state of its industries and other sectors to be able to compete in the world and meet new challenges. The Department of Chemistry is located in the new Armacost Science Building. It consists of large modern lecture rooms/halls, two seminar rooms with audio-video arrangements and four large modern laboratories. There is also an instrument laboratory and six postgraduate laboratories for research only. The Department is equipped with the latest models of the following instruments: atomic absorption spectrophotometer thermogravimetric analyzer CHNS/O analyzer gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer FT-IR spectrophotometer UV/VIS spectrophotometer gamray electrochemical equipment. The Department of Chemistry is determined to demonstrate the distinguished features of FCC: excellence in education, commitment to core values, leadership in curriculum development, service to nation, and above all its pioneering effort to help develop leaders of integrity and discipline. Admission Requirements The applicant must have 4-year baccalaureate degree from a recognized local or foreign university, with a major in Chemistry or a related field and a minimum of 2.5 CGPA. MPhil Physics

Physics has been taught at Forman Christian College since it became a college in 1864. The Physics Department was established in 1907 with Prof D J Fleming as its first Head. A long line of distinguished professors and prominent scientists have served at this department, including Nobel Laureate Dr Arthur Compton, Prof J M Benade and Dr Piara Singh Gill. [+]

Physics has been taught at Forman Christian College since it became a college in 1864. The Physics Department was established in 1907 with Prof D J Fleming as its first Head. A long line of distinguished professors and prominent scientists have served at this department, including Nobel Laureate Dr Arthur Compton, Prof J M Benade and Dr Piara Singh Gill. Dr Compton conducted most of his research on cosmic rays while a faculty member at FCC, which led to his receiving the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1927. Prof J M Benade was one of the longest serving professors in the department, eventually retiring as its Head in 1970. He was an active researcher and the Asian representative in Dr Compton’s international research team. Dr Compton’s student Dr Piara Singh Gill was a faculty member at FCC from 1940 to 1947 and active in research. He was associated with the University of Chicago and the Georgia Institute of Technology. All these scientists and professors have made significant contributions to the field. The Physics Department is located in the Armacost Science Building which has four undergraduate teaching labs, three research labs, a darkroom, a workshop, a research library, and experimental equipment which includes 4K cryogenic vacuum chamber with temperature monitors and controllers, ellipsometer, digital optical microscope for surface morphology studies, lock in amplifiers, Tesla meters, laser interferometer with optoelectronic coupling, high temperature three stage programmable furnace, UV visible spectrophotometer and centrifuge, etc. Program Features Four regular semesters 40 credit hours in total 26 credit hours of coursework in first two semesters Students must maintain a minimum of 3.0 CGPA in coursework 3rd and 4th semesters will be dedicated to research on a theme chosen by the research supervisor Admission Requirements Conventional MS in Physics or Mathematics in first class; or BS (Honors) comprising 16 years of education and 130 completed credit hours after grade 12, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 overall as well as a CMGPA of 2.50 in the Physics or Mathematics major 50% cumulative score in GAT-General from the NTS or in the entry test conducted by the Department Passing the Forman Physics Aptitude Test (FPAT).
