Just take a moment to consider complex and specialist equipment in hospitals, such as MRI scanners. Then contrast this with small gadgets and tools that enable people to continue living in their own home environments for longer, such as a wireless alarm system. Between these two extremes lie countless applications such as pacemakers, monitors of all sorts of biological signals, diagnostic equipment and resources used in the curative process. The development of these applications is the subject of the Care and Cure Master’s degree program. This is a highly dynamic field in which knowledge in the fields of electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science, physics and biology is integrated. Content of the Master's degree program in Computer Science and Engineering In the Master's degree program in Computer Science and Engineering, you will learn to design quality software. You will also combine a scientific perspective with the approach of an engineer. You will systematically produce inventories of requirements and incorporate them into your design. You will also be able to make qualitative and quantitative judgments regarding the extent to which those requirements have been met. As a Master's-level graduate, you will be able to play a leading role in the development of your specialist field, whether in scientific research, in industry, in commercial businesses or in (government) organizations. Compulsory element The program includes compulsory courses as well as greater freedom of choice in the form of electives. You learn how to create reliable protocols for the behavior of complex software systems. To do this requires knowledge of algorithms, performance, hardware, and design and documentation methods. Data science is an emerging discipline that aims to address this challenge. It is a multi-disciplinary domain, where computer science and mathematics play crucial roles, complemented with human-technology interaction, business models and operations management expertise and skills. Program This is a joint master program of Mathematics and Computer Science which can be studied as a special track in either the Computer Science and Engineering Master or the Industrial and Applied Mathematics Master. Core courses The program includes several core courses as well as great freedom of choice in the form of electives. The core courses span a wide range of computer science and statistics courses and include base competences such as: Process Mining, Data Mining, Algorithms, Visualization, Real-life data challenges, Statistics for Big Data, Statistical Learning Theory, and Probability and Stochastic Processes.
