Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture

Established at the University of Lithuania in 1940. Faculty consists of 5 departments; fields of their studies and research are oriented towards building constructions, technologies, materials, engineering systems, architecture and urban development. We are glad to work with good specialists of their area and actively cooperate with largest Lithuanian construction companies (YIT Kausta, STATICUS, Autokausta, Litana, and others), incorporating their practical experience into study process and providing students with possibilities of internships and placements.

About Faculty

Faculty is proud of its rich and interesting history, celebrated figures of art and science (for example, artists prof. A. Žmuidzinavičius, assoc. prof. K. Šimonis, scientists – academic prof. S. Kolupaila, prof. P. Jodelė and others), who worked at the faculty.

Faculty was established in 1940. Previously, Office of Civil Engineering of Technical Faculty, worked since 1922. Recently, good specialists of architecture, engineering systems of buildings and civil engineering work at the faculty.

The graduate of the Master of Architecture degree program shall have to be able to justify comprehensively the personal creative ideas when designing structures or urban integrated facilities as well as to be professionally skilled to carry out scientific research works. [+]

Graduates of Architecture Master degree study programme can implement their creative ideas in design of buildings or urban complexes and perform high quality research works. They are able to perform research, architectural and urban planning, territorial planning and management work at the companies of architectural design and territorial planning, research organisations, as well as perform individual work of architectural and urban design and territorial planning. Combination of arts, humanities and social sciences Study programme provides its students with theoretical knowledge of history of art, architecturology, urban sociology, protection of immovable cultural heritage, comprehensive integrated architectural renovation and heritage protection. It involves application of interactive teaching methods and education based on case analysis. Highly competent lecturers take part in the teaching process. Studies provide competences of scientific-methodical assessment, which enable preparation of professional projects for buildings and urban complexes Graduates comprehend the principles of sustainable design and are able to apply them preparing the projects of buildings and urban complexes; they can justify their creative ideas based on scientific knowledge. They are able to perform scientific research works independently and use the research results in their professional activities for assessment of quality of buildings and their environment. Majority of students or graduates practice their acquired speciality Students of Master degree Architecture study programme work at various design companies, organisations of architectural planning and scientific research: AB “Miestprojektas”, municipal enterprise “Kauno planas”, KTU Institute of Architecture and Construction, private companies of famous architects. Career opportunities: from architect or urbanist, to chief architect of the municipality; from attested manager at design and/or planning company to scientist in the field of history of art. Innovative design programmes are used in the study process The newly established Office of Artistic and Architectural Skills Development Laboratories provides a possibility to use 3D printer MakerBot Z18 and other latest equipment for layout works. Lithuanian and foreign students of this programme are motivated and have big aspirations Students of this programme are motivated and advanced. It leads to creative environment oriented to academic performance, which contributes to excellent acquisition of required knowledge and skills. Team of lecturers consists of the university’s lecturers as well as well-known professional architects working in Lithuania and abroad. Study programme is designed for preparation of the masters of Civil Engineering, who have knowledge and skills to solve scientific experimental and analytical tasks of civil engineering, are able to apply the acquired knowledge for designing of complex structures of civil and industrial buildings or constructions, characteristics of building materials that determine durability and reliability of buildings and constructions, solving complex tasks of construction and construction technology. Graduates will be able to individually analyse the tasks of civil engineering, select the suitable methods for their solutions and applying specialized software.
