The University of Liechtenstein is an internationally recognised university, top-rated owing to its cultivation of the close connection between study and practice. The university is a foundation under public law, which allows it to fulfil its performance mandate autonomously and flexibly (Law on the University of Liechtenstein of 25 November 2004).


The content of the education and transfer offerings is geared to societal needs and business demands. Its key aspects (Architecture and Planning, Business Economics) are in the fields of Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programmes, continuing education, research and development or technology and knowledge transfer. Approximately 800 students are registered in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral degree programmes, Executive Master’s and post-graduate programmes, as well as university courses of study either full-time or in a continuing education capacity. These educational offerings are interdisciplinary and aligned with international decision-making and responsibility expertise.

Master in Architecture

The programme's curriculum reflects on the diverse and complex challenges facing architecture as a socially responsible profession today. An understanding of and an active engagement with cultural sustainability is at the heart of its curriculum. The different design studios give students the opportunity to engage with this topic on a variety of scales applying a multitude of design- and research methods, preparing students for the demands of the broad field of architecture and planning. The specific agendas developed in the design studios range from architectural design theory to cultural architecture, sustainable design and sustainable urban design. Together with a series of compulsory and elective classes, they enable students to design their own curriculum and thus develop their personal interests in-depth. Small classes and design studios provide a personal, creative and productive learning and research environment. Currently, students of more than 30 different nationalities create a unique cosmopolitan atmosphere on a compact campus within a stunning alpine setting. A compulsory exchange semester at one of the Institute’s high-profile international Partner-Universities helps students to test their acquired knowledge in a different cultural and academic environment and offers new perspectives and opportunities. Graduates of the Master’s degree programme in Architecture are well prepared for a career in architecture, and thanks to the sound practical and academic education, promising perspectives may also arise in various research fields and academia. Upon successful completion of the programme, the University of Liechtenstein grants the academic degree of: Admission requirements Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Architecture Completion of a relevant Bachelor’s degree in architec­ture or in a related area with at least 180 ECTS credits. Project portfolio Your portfolio should include academic design and art projects, your Bachelor or Diploma Thesis, as well as professional projects with a description of your contributions to these projects. Insert only relevant projects with appropriate information in drawings (plans, sections, elevations) and images of study models and describe briefly the programme. Do not insert architectural photographies. Only one page with freehand sketches is allowed. Use a proper layout, no black background, not too many colours. Put all the information concerning your curriculum (course list, credits earned and grades) as well as recommendation letters and a current portrait in the first pages of the portfolio. Please note that your portfolio should not exceed a DIN A3 format in size, i.e. 29.7 x 42.0 cm, or 11.6 x 16.5 inches. If sent via email, file format pdf only, JPG's will not be accepted. File size not more than 10MB. A maximum of two files will be accepted. Label the file with your name! Letter of motivation In your statement of purpose you should provide a short auto-biographical sketch, state your interests in architecture, and the reasons and your personal motivations to pursue a Master's degree in architecture at the University of Liechtenstein. You should also speculate about how a Master's degree will further your future professional career in architecture. Please note that the statement of purpose has to be written in English, and should have a minimum length of thousand (1000) to a maximum of two-thousand (2000) words. Curriculum Vitae In English or German Language skills Applicants are required to demonstrate language proficiency of at least level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages as published by the Council of Europe. Sufficient knowledge of English needs to be proven to the Academic Board by supplying one of the certificates listed in our Admission Guidelines or a certificate from a previous educational programme. The requirement to provide a certificate may be waived for candidates whose undergraduate programme was taught entirely in English, or for candidates who have lived and/or worked in English-speaking countries for at least two years. Tuition fees CHF 850.- per semester The study place is assured after the tuition fee has been received for the first semester. 

In the course fees are not included the cost of teaching materials and excursions. The workload should not exceed more than 40% of a full-time employment, since the challenging programme of study requires sufficient time for preparation and follow-up.
