Setanta College has recently formed a partnership with the University of South Wales to fulfil what they felt was a key gap in their Sports Education offering. Setanta College, founded by Dr Liam Hennessy , is recognised as a world leader in the application of the latest thinking and technology in Strength and Conditioning.
Through this partnership we are offering both a Certificate of Higher Education in Strength & Conditioning and a BSc in Strength & Conditioning. The courses can be studied full-time on-campus (next intake September 2016) or via our blended learning format (next intake February 2016). Both qualifications are recognised internationally.
With the blended learning format, the majority of course work is completed online. Students also attend workshop blocks twice a year (approximately every six months) at the USW Sport park. Each block will be delivered over a 5-day period and will include practical demonstrations and assessments, an introduction to the latest technologies and their applications, face-to-face lectures and examinations. The workshops give students the opportunity to receive coaching in the application of their learning by world class S&C practitioners, under the leadership of Dr Ian Jefferies and to interact with other course members.
The students on the full-time on-campus course attend lectures at the University of South Wales. Lecture content is informed by world class scientists and coaches and delivered by experienced lecturers via an interactive format. In addition the application and workshop elements highlighted in the blended programme above, also apply.
Regardless of which course you choose, the principles of our approach are the same: to produce graduates that understand what world class Strength and Conditioning means and who can work in partnership with other sports science professionals. Our ultimate goal is to make our graduate stand out and become more employable and as a consequence improve standards in coaching.
The Setanta College/USW courses are designed in a ladder fashion to allow seamless progression from one to the next. For example, if you completed the Certificate of Higher Education in Strength & Conditioning, then you would only have to complete the remaining modules of the BSc in Strength & Conditioning to earn your degree.
USW is an approved qualifications awarding body by the European Union. All accreditation points are accepted throughout the European Union. Therefore the qualifications will be recognised internationally..
