With 12,000 students registered on 51Bachelor and Masters courses and eight faculties, South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest of its kind in North Rhine Westphalia. Despite this, it is a friendly studying environment at its campuses in Hagen, Iserlohn, Meschede, Soest, as well as Lüdenscheid since the 2010/2011 winter term. Our institution consists of five units, located in Hagen, Iserlohn, Lüdenscheid, Meschede and Soest. The study programs published on this website will take place in the ancient Hanseatic City of Soest. It is home to a wide range of successful companies and research facilities. Located between the densely populated and highly industrialized metropolises of the Ruhr area and the rural hills and forests of the Sauerland low mountain ranges, it offers numerous possibilities for exploring either big cities like Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Cologne or the many recreational possibilities of the beautiful countryside.

The programme aims to deepen and broaden the research potential and the knowledge base of graduate engineers [+]

Objectives of the Course The programme aims to deepen and broaden the research potential and the knowledge base of graduate engineers. The programme builds on the well-established first-degree (Dipl. Ing.) courses especially in Electrical, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. These courses in Engineering are regarded as a foundation and the Masters Programme will provide advanced and special education extending from this base. The course aims to provide research education in electronic systems and engineering management for graduates from backgrounds in mechanical, electrical and manufacturing engineering. The course will incorporate modern electronic technology and a major non-technological element (management science) because it is highly relevant to use of both strands in the new M.Sc., as they are important aspects of modern industrial and engineering practice and research. This programme will provide advanced specialist education equipping graduates with the skills to integrate electronic technology, control systems design and digital signal processing in a wide variety of industrial applications and research topics. Entrance Requirements The necessary qualification for the study course Systems Engineering and Engineering Management has to be proven by a) a degree (bachelor or diploma) in a course of studies of at least seven semesters b) or a bachelor´s degree in a course of studies of six semesters PLUS one semester of additional qualification according to the conditions of the Board of Examiners. Enrolment at the Fachhochschule Südwestfalen during this additional qualification is limited to one semester, a good knowledge of the English language: the command of the English language has to be testified by a TOEFL test in which at least 213 points in the computer based test (CBT) or 80 points in the internet based test (iBT) were obtained, or by a comparable test, proof of ability: the ability for the master course is considered as adduced if the applicant has completed the previous mentioned course of study (bachelor or diploma) with a good result (at least comparable to the German grade "Gesamtnote Gut"). In all other cases ability has to be proven through an aptitude test; closer information on this test as well as on the entrance requirements in general is given from the faculty. [-]

Objectives of the Course The Master of Arts degree in International Management & Information Systems (IMIS) prepares students for leadership roles in a globalized economy where the intelligent use of IT systems is becoming a critical success factor. The English-language degree course is meeting this demand by offering a two-fold qualification where IT-related subjects such as Integrated Information Systems, Business Intelligence, Electronic Business and Management Information Systems are coupled with key Business Administration competencies including Marketing Management, Entrepreneurship, Innovation Management, Finance and Accounting. State-of-the-art technologies allow for distance-learning opportunities and an optional integrated study abroad or practical experience semester provide students with additional career prospects. Degree profile The degree program focusses on the integrated acquisition of IT and leadership skills to address the increasing importance of information technology in (internationally) linked businesses: • the support of International Management through IT and • the management of Information Technology systems across international boundaries. Accordingly, the degree program emphasizes two core areas, each with their individual diverse applications and methods: • IT competencies in Integrated Information Systems, Electronic Business, Business Intelligence and Information Management • Management competencies in Marketing Management, Entrepreneurship, Innovation Management as well as Finance & Accounting. English-language, internationally focussed course content as well as partnerships with international universities provide students with a truly international experience. Study duration and enrollment The program "International Management & Information Systems" (IMIS) builds upon the Bachelor’s degree course “Business Administration with Informatics”. The standard course duration is three semesters with a total of 90 credits including 20 credits for the Master’s thesis (incl. colloquium) and additional 5 credits allotted to a block course covering research methods for the Master’s thesis.
