The main objective of the course is to offer methodological and problem orientated education which is related to research as well as to practice. Therefore, advanced knowledge in engineering, science and economics is transferred in this course. A broad theoretical basis with profound subject-specific specialization enables students to identify current boundaries of knowledge and to enhance them with state of the art methodological approaches. This requires a confrontation with unanswered issues and the inclusion of students in research projects. Thus, the teaching will not be limited to conventional topics but will encourage self-responsibility and independent structuring of gathering and processing the subject matters. Programme Structure To achieve a Master of Science in "Production Systems Engineering" students have to satisfy certain requirements by taking compulsory courses and elective courses. The Master's degree awarded by the RWTH is recognised worldwide and qualifies graduates for further PhD studies. Organization of the Programme The courses are organized in winter semesters (beginning 1 October) and summer semesters (beginning 1 April). The lectures are held in the winter semester by mid of February and in the summer semester by mid of July. Most exams are given in the lecture free period (mid-February - end of March / mid-July - end of September. Self-Responsibility of Students As part of the German higher education system, students are challenged to develop a high degree of self-responsibility, self-motivation and self-organization.
