Introduction

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of the School of Sciences and Engineering is that the education offered should be of the highest level so that our students are enabled to acquire the knowledge and skills and cultivate the abilities which will help them to succeed in their careers, enrich their lives, and successfully face the difficulties but also take advantage of the opportunities which they will meet.

Our Vision

The vision of the School of Sciences and Engineering in a summarized form is to:

Our Departments and Programs

The School of Sciences and Engineering is one of Cyprus’ few resources of education in the fields of science and engineering. Organizationally, our School consists of three departments, namely: Computer Science, Engineering, and Life & Health Sciences.

The Department of Computer Science offers programs in Mathematics (BSc) and in Computer Science (BSc, MSc, PhD).

The Department of Engineering offers programs in the disciplines of Computer Engineering (BSc), Electrical Engineering (BSc, MSc, PhD), Civil & Environmental Engineering (BSc), Oil & Gas Engineering (BSc) and Oil, Gas and Energy Engineering (MSc, PhD). The MSc in Oil, Gas and Energy Engineering is also offered through Distance Learning.

The Department of Life and Health Sciences offers programs in the disciplines of Nursing (BSc), Human Biology (BSc), Sports Science (BSc), Nutrition & Dietetics (BSc, PhD), Pharmacy (BPharm), Physiotherapy (BSc, PhD), Environmental & Energy Management (BSc), Exercise Science & Physical Education (MSc, PhD), Clinical Dietetics (MSc), Sports Nutrition/Dietetics & Nutrition Intervention (MSc), Contemporary Nursing (MSc), Mental Health Nursing, Orthopedic Science & Rehabilitation (MSc), Biomedical Sciences (MSc) and Inherited Haemoglobin Disorders: Thalassaemia & Sickle Cell Syndromes (MSc offered through Distance Learning).

The School is also affiliated to the University of Nicosia Research Foundation (UNRF) which deals with scientific and technological research.

Our success is evidenced through the acknowledged satisfaction of the companies and organizations which have employed our graduates. Also, the success story of students who obtained their foundation (Bachelor degree) from us and went on to pursue graduate studies (Masters and Doctoral degrees) overseas is another piece of proof concerning the quality of our programs.

Our People

A dynamic force for excellence within Cyprus' private university educational system, our dedicated, full time faculty amount to 62 academics - 54 are teaching research faculty (PhD holders) and 8 are special teaching faculty. Additionally, we employ a number of part-time lecturers made up of professionals, recognized experts in their respective fields.

Our Resources

The university library collection of over 95,000 volumes, more than 1,000 print journals and 6,000 electronic journals, and numerous online resources supports basic research. The university’s sizeable investments in its specialized computer labs, electrical & computer engineering lab, radio communications lab, civil engineering lab, oil & gas engineering lab, chromatography lab, physics lab, nursing skills lab, patient simulation suite, biology lab, chemistry lab, cell biology lab, developmental biology lab, tissue culture lab, molecular biology lab, dark room, ventilated chemical storage room, pharmaceutical technology/analysis lab, medicinal chemistry lab, simulation pharmacy, physiotherapy labs (2), food and nutrition lab, food science lab, and human performance lab, along with a networked learning environment and multi-media classrooms give state-of-the-art information technology infrastructure and support to our students.

Our Students

The School of Sciences and Engineering has over 1500 students. The School’s student body is diverse and multicultural and reflects, to some extent, the demographics of Cyprus and the location of the island; 42% of the student body is female and 58% is male; 30% of the students are international, with strong European, Asian and African representation, and 70% are Cypriot. This cross-cultural mix provides a rich base of views and practices to enhance and expand students’ perspectives for multinational scientific and technological environments.

Minimum Credits: 36 Minimum ECTS Credits: 90 Profile of the Programme: The Master degree advances the students’ knowledge in core areas of Computer Science beyond the undergraduate level and exposes them to current and emerging trends. The programme provides an introduction to research within the field, while strengthening the candidate's effective application of Computer Science methods. The degree is designed to have the learning outcomes related to the application of knowledge and understanding for the analysis, design and development of computer systems. The curriculum prepares the student for a wide variety of computer-oriented careers, such as managerial positions in the ICT industry as well as technical development, administration or entrepreneurial positions in ICT. The degree constitutes an independent and terminal study in addition to providing the basis for acceptance to, and continued studies towards, a doctoral degree in Computer Science. The content of the programme is highly practical and experimental and allows the students to choose those elective courses that will meet their future career goals. The practical direction of the degree aims to address the current and anticipated needs of the local industry, this is achieved through close collaboration between the Department of Computer Science and industrial partners through joined projects, guest lecturers to courses, and open days organised by the University and industrial bodies. The program aims of the specialization in Cyber Security focus on the impact of cyber warfare in the contemporary digital era and the analysis of threats, vulnerabilities and risks in a network environment. It also focuses on penetration testing principles and approaches to mitigate potential network attacks. The program aims of the specialization in Mobile Systems focus on the fundamental concepts of Mobile Computing and wireless technology as well as on the development of software and applications for mobile platforms. Career Prospects: Graduates of the MSc programme should be able to: hold managerial positions in the ICT industry or government offices; become senior technical developers or administrators in the ICT marketplace; become entrepreneurs and establish their own enterprises; continue studying towards a doctoral degree. Graduates of the Master’s program can be employed in a number of sectors including off-shore exploration, product refineries, on-shore liquefying natural gas (LNG) terminal, chemical manufacturing industries and research.
