Introduction

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a truly unique institution, jointly founded by Xi'an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool. It is the only international collaborative university in China where all undergraduate (Bachelors) students receive two degrees (dual award) from the Chinese Ministry of Education and from the University of Liverpool degree). Masters students will receive a degree from the University of Liverpool.

Founded in 2006 with an initial intake of just 164 students, the University has grown rapidly. We now have over 8,000 students on campus with a further 2,500 studying at Liverpool under a 2+2 articulation agreement. XJTLU undergraduate students may study the entire degree programme in Suzhou, China, or start study in Suzhou and then complete the final two years at the University of Liverpool.

At XJTLU, International students who are native or near-native English Language speakers can be exempt from the XJTLU Year 1 study and complete their degree in three years (subject to qualifications).

XJTLU is independent, but draws for guidance and experience upon its two parent universities, both of which are over one hundred years old and highly respected international pioneers. The University recruits students from China and abroad at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and also receives visiting, exchange and Chinese Language Studies students.

Overview The Master of Architectural Design programme prepares students for an international career in architecture, creating bridges between Eastern and Western culture. Understanding mobility as one of the core conditions of global modernity, the programme attracts international students preparing for a career related to China, as well as domestic students preparing for both national and international careers. The programme focuses on architectural design studio as well as on humanistic and technical modules in preparation of either professional practice or PhD-level studies. This programme is made to deliver all the learning outcomes as defined by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to qualify for RIBA part 2 validation, which is the second out of three stages in the formal educational process required to register as a professional architect in the United Kingdom. The programme offers an international perspective, while at the same time enabling students to address the demands of rapid modernisation in China. When you graduate from this programme, you will receive an international masters degree from the University of Liverpool that is recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Knowledge and skills The Master of Architectural Design programme will teach you how to develop architectural design projects at an advanced level, including the creative, technical and research skills needed, and educate you in the areas of theory, history and criticism of architecture. Overview The MA TESOL programme will provide you with the opportunity to develop both a scholarly and practical understanding of the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). It is suitable for language teachers, teacher trainers, educational materials writers and test designers who wish to further develop their range of professional skills and knowledge. Graduates of this programme, as with all XJTLU masters degrees, earn a University of Liverpool degree that is recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
